Like you said, that point means they win it if they’re level with Anderlecht after the play offs are done right? That comes before goal difference too?
Goal difference doesn’t matter. There are two criteria for a tie break if teams finish level on points at the end of the play offs. First is to remove any rounded up points, second is finishing position at the end of the regular season. This means USG would always be favoured in any tied scenario.

Oh so todays point actually meant nothing then 🤦🏻‍♂️

I wonder how approval for their new stadium is progressing. Or has it all gone a bit "Palace new stand"?

This was Alex Muzio's vague update a few weeks ago

Yes and no. Against Anderlect it makes no real difference, other than going into the play offs on the back of a draw rather than a defeat.

However take into account third place Antwerp, if USG hadn't have got that point today then their total would have been rounded. In that case, an admittedly unlikely, tie at the end of the play offs with Antwerp would see USG finishing behind them.

A special mention to Óscar García's Oud-Heverlee Leuven avoiding the relegation play-off by beating KV Mechelen 1-0. Mechelen were still in the running for the champions play-off at the start of the day.

Cercle Brugge and Genk join the Championship play-off party...

Union 35 points
Anderlecht 32 points (rounded up)
Antwerp 26 points
Club Brugge 26 points (rounded up)
Cercle Brugge 24 points (rounded up)
Genk 24 points (rounded up)

Draw tomorrow and play-offs begin 29th March...

Only one team can surely catch Union now. But with their record, surely any cash has to go on Anderlecht to be the team to steal the title from Union this particular season? I’m sure Union have blown bigger leads in the play-offs?

Anderlecht hopefully a bit less confident after the Kortrijk defeat... certainly don't want to see Schmeichel celebrating anything.

In 2021-22, at the end of the regular season, Union had a 3 point (rounded up) lead and in 2022-23 Union were level on points with Genk. Both seasons only had 4 teams involved. Anyway, fingers crossed it is third time lucky for Union...plus the first cup final for Union since 1914 too so the double is still on...

In Blessin we trust...

Feel sorry for Mechelen. They must be tired.

They need to get a grip. Just skidded out of the play-offs.
Still in the race so Mechelen's tyres have a bit of tread left...if they are winner of the Europe Play-off they face the team finishing fourth in the Champions' Play-offs to decide which team qualifies for European football...

How Brighton’s sister club turned into the ‘cheat code’ of European football

"Belgium’s league system is unique in the fact that the title is decided via a championship playoff round, contested by the top six sides from across the 30-game regular season."

Not so - exactly the same as the Austrian system.

The Belgian play-off system is designed for drama.

USG’s 7 point lead is now burned off on the first day of the play-offs.

Some controversy has emerged from the last round of the regular season as Genk and Westerlo played out a 1-1 draw that was enough to see Genk into the Championship play offs and Westerlo avoid the relegation rounds.

The last 5 mins or so were played with no effort from the players, just going through the motions and knocking the ball, as well as opposition players passing the ball to each other and shaking hands before the full time whistle.

Westerlo manager has been sacked, the captains have been suspended and all 21 players on the pitch have been fined (Genk had a player sent off). Surprised more hasn’t been made of it and Gent who missed out on the playoffs haven’t made more noise.

The footage that has emerged is pretty damming.
