I find this band intriguing. I must admit at best I think they're slightly above average.....but they ungender the most fanatical (but rather small) fanbase I've seen of any band. I think it's good the do this and I've got nothing against them...I just dont get the fanaticism.

Absolutely. I saw them at Latitude last year and was SO underwhelmed considering all the hype surrounding them. Like a VERY poor man's Arcade Fire, some of the atmosphere (but worse fashion) but no tunes that grabbed you immediately.

Most underrated? The National, by an absolute mile.

Can't argue with you there Uncle S, let NSC check out the masterful lyrical content and structure of one of their hits entitled Touchy:

Me
I'm touchy
touchy you
me
I'm touchy and you know what to do

me
I'm touchy
touchy
touchy you

me
I'm touchy and you know what to do.

NSC you just DO NOT argue with songwriting like that. You may also want to sample the delights of Cry Wolf:

Cry wolf
Time to worry
Cry wolf
Time to worry now

You can start, but you cannot stop
You give in, but you can't give up
You can tell all your desperate jokes
To a world that puts your
Love on hold

Cry wolf
Time to worry
Cry wolf
Time to worry now

And if you enjoyed that try:

Stay on these roads
The blood that moves the body
or
Move to Memphis

Winner every time. Why they never scooped an Ivor Norvello or a Grammy beggars belief!

Touchy and Cry Wolf are probably the weakest 2 songs in their entire repetiore. Well done.

Irrelevant - they've had about 6 WORLD TOURS. They cannot be underrated.

This band was underrated:

Not convinced by The Piranhas. They are little more than a pub band that got lucky IMHO.

Think your probably right, it wast influenced as they were the first band i connected with as a teenager, + Bob gave me a fag down the Suite when they supported the Jags :) Think this selection was seduced by nostalgia.

I therefore withdraw this nomination.:)

Was considering saying this band.

Was in a bar in Worthing last night and Wide Open Space came on. Absolute tune.

Would certainly agree with some of the above:

It's Immaterial
The Divine Comedy
Lightning Seeds (and if we're talking pure sugar-coated pop music then Frazier Chorus must be mentioned)

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
A band I felt were MASSIVELY underated mostly due to the massive over exposure of the average Happy Mondays and one trick ponies Stone Roses were the incredible Northside.

Or perhaps it was due to the fact I was out of my tits for most of the early nineties.
