Split Enz.Massive in Australia and New Zealand.Tim and Neil Finn best song writers since Lennon and McCartney. As I remember the last time Split Enz performed as a band was Jan/Feb 1997.Under rated I agree

They played a few weeks ago at the Sound Relief concert in Melbourne to raise money for the victims of the recent fires.
For them to only have one hit here was a travesty.

Some more bands from down under who deserved more - Midnight Oil, The Triffids and The Muttonbirds.

I like the Lightning Seeds too. But if you look at the number of people on this thread who feel that way, then clearly they are well appreciated, and not underrated at all.

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
The KLF were massively underated, although I would say that!!!!!

Also ASH were a fantastic band that were never really recognized for all they contributed

I am in total agreement with Phoenix and Supergrass. I would like to add Royksopp, Herman Dune, The Avalanches and the Super Furry Animals to the pot.

Young Marble Giants - minimalist electronica pioneers from Cardiff
Quantum Jump - jazz pop elecronic rock disco fusion headed by Rupert Hine
BeBop Deluxe - art rock cleverness at its best
Eddie and The Hot Rods - rhythm n blues meets pub rock pop with a punk sensibility
Graham Parker & The Rumour - always dismissed as the poor man's Springsteen, but a superb songwriter, great live act and a consummate backing band

The most underrated band of all time imo is Love, (why does everyone rate the Doors so much?) Then I would mention, Spirit, Captain Beefheart, Can, Wire, The Fall, Kinks c. Village Green Preservation Society (I'm amazed no-one bought that album at the time.) There's so many out there!!!

The Chameleons, they were Manchester's house band in the early 80's. I'm off to see Mark Burgess and John Lever in the Sun and the Moon shortly. Fingers crossed they will play a couple of Chams' tracks.

Aha are hardly what I'd put in the "under-rated" file!

Several hit tunes, many of which people on the street would know?
A storming debut that was boosted by a landmark video?

tsk. Loads of bands mentioned herein though (even the Meteors! who were a great band live, at least).
