I disagree. In many way when it rains thats when the Lakes really come alive. Walking along Wastwater with the mist coming down in the rain is hard to beat imo. Wainwrights walk books and recent TV programmes are superb.

Each to their own, I hate grey rainy days with low clouds anywhere.

Have to say I much prefer when I accidentally book a holiday in the Canaries that is a German stronghold. No 'Walsall FC Knuckledraggers Arms' union jacks on the balconies, no burger-wolfing lardy kids screaming about the place being slapped by their farking'n'blinding parents. Less white trash all round basically.

My fault I'm sure
one of the reasons we moved from london to sussex, less black trash.

You really do come across as a nasty pice of work Bushy. I was wondering if there is a reason for all the bitterness and resentment.

im just highlighting the fact that all the left leaning people on this forum think it perfectly acceptable to generalise about the white working class and react with such shock and horror the moment anyone mentions the misdeeds of ethnic minorities, and yes i am bitter and angry because my people ( the white working class) have been shit on by successive governments both labour and tory with regards to housing, healthcare etc with regards to immigrants.

Nestling in green nowhere
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO Nick. That will never do. Stop talking such utter nonsense. It is HERE in England that the dirty streets, ethnic unrest and high taxation are such a problem. The Daily mail said so.

My partner went into one and it was a hole in the ground you have to squat over and have a dump in and then find something to wipe your arse with.

Reminds me of the executive lounge at Selhurst Park or Warnocks office.

I know it doesn't really prove anybodies point but this is on the front page of the BBC site.

Groom stabbed at wedding party

Joe Pattenden Hunt was celebrating after getting married in June
A groom who was stabbed along with his best man at a wedding party in the garden of an East Sussex home has said knife crime is "not just in London".

Joe Pattenden Hunt spoke after being attacked on Saturday evening at celebrations in Crowborough held a month after his wedding in June.

The pair were attacked after a group of gatecrashers disrupted the party.

Matthew Gould, 23, of Crowborough, has been charged with two counts of GBH. Police said the incident was "rare".

In an interview with BBC South East Today, Mr Pattenden Hunt said he thought he was going to die.

The 27-year-old said: "I did feel very frightened. I was going very faint. I was just trying to stay awake, and was sort of aware of what felt like a lot of blood.

"I could see a lot of blood and I was very worried for my best man and myself."

'Isolated incident'

Mr Pattenden Hunt said: "I've lived here in this lovely country location for 27 years and always felt very lucky and fortunate for being here - and then for something like this to happen.

"Crowborough is usually quite a sleepy little country town and these people are here - they're not just in London."

Don't get me wrong I know there is crime in Sussex including stabbings, these things happen nearly everywhere in the world. I have never claimed to live in Utopia. The real question is how much is there of it. It's basically an individual judgement call, what I use to make mine is how much I see around me and is anything truly effecting me...like I have said I know of no-one whom has been stabbed, nor carrys a knife, nor thinks of carrying a knife.

The fact that this is on the BBC website and you had to search for it is interesting as this shows it is national news for 50+million people and like the story says is obviously very rare, because if it wasn't nationally newsworthy, it wouldn't make the BBC.

However, what I generally read in my local press, by far a more likelier way for me to die rather than being stabbed would be to be in a road traffic accident (I also do know people who have sadly, so this does effect me), Do people go around living in fear of dying in road traffic accidents?

Yet turn to page 2 and it is stories about councilor Joe Bloggs serving 35 years for his local council and getting a carriage clock, turn to page 3 it is about Mrs Miggins showing off her prize winning cabbages. Page 4 is a photo shoot of the local primary school fete. These are the things that are "truly" going on in and around the area that I live in Sussex. People die in road traffic accidents, and the rest tends to be very genteel nonsence, not hoodies rampaging in drunken yobbery. Causing locals to cower in fear, nor asylum seekers taking all the jobs of the locals etc etc,

Bushy, what am I today? working-class, middle-class or upper-class? Thick or bright? Unemployed, unemployable, in low-grade, mid-grade or high-grade employment?

You seem to come up with totally uninformed and contrasting ideas about who I am or what I am based on some ideas and thoughts I have.....just wondering what it is to be today?

I love visiting France and will be at a campsite in the South with the family in August.

However, England has a good deal going for it too so here is my list of English advantages.

1. The Albion. Of course. But English football in general is more passionate and ingrained in our culture from ManU to Kingston U9s.
2. Cricket. French cricket is fun with the kids but I couldn't watch it for 5 days (I know many of you couldn't watch any cricket for 5 days, but I can).
3. Beer. Especially Harveys.
4. Pubs. Especially country pubs. 5. Walking/hiking. We take the footpath network here for granted, but little beats hiking in the Peaks, Dales or especially Lakeland.
6. Sense of humour. Do you know a good French comic?

My aim would be to retire in 10 years when 55 and have a smaller place in Sussex AND a place in Provence, and spend the year between the 2. Not sure the financial plan will run to this and I still have to persuade the missus, but I am going to look into it seriously.
PG

I'd miss Glastonbury. All things considered the amount of enjoyment I get from my 5 days down there beats anything else.

ive only ever come up with one view of who or what you are admittedly a guess, but it still stands, that youre a failure albeit well educated who does low grade clerical work, as i said before , dont flatter yourself that this is some kind of nibble/barsmar type feud , i respond when one of your posts annoys or offends me , but what you are today and always will be is a prick.

You have stated I am privately educated and in low-grade work...you have also suggested I am working-class and reasonably affluent. You are also suggesting I am a failure and a prick.

A number of people dont agree with me on here, a number of people do. But what I will say is that folk like Uncle S, Uncle Buck and Steward 433 at least offer debate and a bit of keyboard sparring and measured response. You dont seem to be able to do this. You simply dish out a load of nonsense about my life and call me names.

I dont say anything offensive, I just have some ideas about my football and my country. I lived abroad for 6 months and watched a lot of football for 6 months. This has formed some ideas I have. Uncle S has been musing over similar things. LC has highlighted things. These are simply thoughts and ideas based, in my case, on experience. It isnt because I am bitter about something or that I am a failure. Agree or disagree but please come back with reason. If anyone is appearing bitter it is you.
