My observations on 3 famous places on my visit

1. Le Mont St Michel - A stunning monastery on an island, one of the most impressive pieces of architecture I have ever seen, a mini world on the island with lots of streets and shops and restaurants until you climb up to the religious part, stunning 9.3

2. Euro Disney - Paris - this visit was for the partner and teenagers, forgetting the nightmare car drive to and back it was a great day out, it costs £ 50 for the day so it bloody well should be but it was hugely impressive, slick, professional and Disney has class seeping out of every pore, everything was done A1 standard, it is a vast complex with everything you could possibly want there, Small World was superb and the Stunt Show was a priviledge as the guy's doing it were hollywood stunt pro's , absolutely superb, Euro Disney is excellent if you like that sort of thing, I would not choose to go again particularly but could understand why people would 9.1

3. Omaha Beach / American Cemetary - I thought I would balanced the frivolity above by taking the teenagers to these sites as they have very patchy knowledge of this part of history, Omaha Beach was were the Americans landed in 1944 to help liberate Europe and was the setting for the beach landings in Saving Private Ryan ( althought it was actually filmed in Ireland ), a huge statue and tribute on the beach and a van playing 40's American Music played on the beach, the cemetary had 10000 gravestines lined up meticulously line after line as far as the eye could see, nothing needed to be said, I hope they got an insight into what happened now

Mont St. Michel ?..........try St. Michaels Mount, Cornwall. same island but pasties aplenty.

EuroDisney ?......... Blackpool Pleasure Beach.. just as much fun and no surrender monkeys...

Omaha Beach ?...... you can find where the Septics liberated lots of local Virgins and cocked up at Slapton Sands, plus its not populated by obese ex Legionaires in check suits wearing medals they got for turning up for a war in europe.

There is an article today in the papers about how the government is being asked to step in and regulate the drinks industry as they have apparently ripped up their own drinks promotion self-regulation and are now embarking on a booze price war.

It reminds me when I was in Berlin and a wonderful bar was celebrating its 2nd anniversary by giving away free beer. We mused over this concept with our German friends and concluded that anything like this would be total and utter carnage in England. Jokes about 'I'll have 18 stellas please' and how word would get out and the place would be swamped, how the police would have had it shut down, the landlord demonised and branded irresponsible, the finger pointing, fights, vomit etc etc.

The night in Berlin passed by with little incident...just a few happy people with a few free beers.

I just think at the moment this country is a steaming turd of a nation and the credit crunch and my chosen profession is probably not helping my mood but I think we are brainwashed into thinking this country is great and we are privildeged to live here by tossers like Gordon Brown and yes we are compared to Iraq or Zimbabwe but most of Europe is better than this country.

Yeah, but this is coming from someone who doesn't have a stiff upper lip, or a stiff-anything-else for that matter.

We only come second in anything because of this kind of weak attitude.
Do you have a nice BROLLY spielberg?

that is where i live - right by Cafe Nol, Monumenjte and Blafende Vis. All 3 popular bars, one for hearing old Dutch singing, one for the local drunkards and one for the young trendies - i prefer the drunkards one :)

Wicked. I am jealous. I spent a lot of time wandering around this area.

We come 2nd in most things because we are talentless and brainless. Success is a combination of determination, hard work, talent and intelligence.

My grandfather was an officer on HMS Scimitar that was "involved" in the Operation Tiger exercise at Slapton Sands (simulated Utah beach landing) in 1944.
He always said it was a big time Royal Navy cock-up - something about the Scimitar having returned to port without advising the US landing vessels which, being left unprotected, lead to some being torpedoed by the Germans. Didn't one of our ships also misdirect its' fire and shell the american troops as they landed, although the official story on this (according to him) is somewhat different?

I will just add, that other Euro countries also have a great feel and balance, great towns, more cultured people.

These countries have great civic pride we instead always get influence by "Council spends money on great design, no we're middle england, we want basic crap, at lower than cost oh no, bloody council wasting my money, they can't even collect my bins"

I haven't got a clue what you are going on about as it has no relevance whatsoever to my post, what is a weak attitude got to do with anything. I am not talking about the World Cup I am commenting on the lifestyle in France.

no ,WE arent , YOU obviously are with your bitter hatred of this far from perfect country,as ive said before in another post,id guess from your bile filled diatribes against this country that youre probably fairly intelligent, a good chance that your privately educated , but you do relatively low grade clerical work because youve failed at pretty much anything meaningful youve ever attempted.

I quite like England at the moment, actually. Had a lovely weekends camping, got a nice bit of sunshine and visited a few places I'd never been to before. Have to say I love France as well though.

Can't think of anyting negative to say on a day like today.

including great bread shops, great cakes, such items from the french, danish, german are tasty, wholsesome, fresh and cheaper than the shite we have to buy?

Yesterday, I drove the 50-odd miles to my cricket club, though glorious Hampshire and Sussex countryside.

I had a fantastic game of CRICKET [one thing France is shamefully lacking] at one of the most beautiful grounds in the county, followed by a couple of drinks [shandies - driving!] in the beer garden of a country pub [not to be found in France].

Wouldn't swap it for the world.

US - perhaqps a slightly miopic view.

For instance with business here and my expereince of France in the last 6 months I could say:

Marseille - not a more liekly place in EMEA to be pickpocketed, raped and sliced with an overall vitriolic hatred of all things foreign. Smelly city, gash food and the frisson of violence never too far away.

Lille -dull dull dull with dull people and dull bars and dull hotels in dull weather.

Perpignan - strange slopy-faced people with a complete lack of manners, one of the most introspective places I have set foot in.

But then I love France and spend a lot of time at my firends house who have moved there and have an incredible life-style in a beautiful part of the country.

Not sure you can discount the English or British way of life after going to somewhere stunning on holiday.
