Ulloa, is he not as good as we all thought?

To say he had NO chances or service in the Palace games is simply not true. He had a fantastic chance after just 7 minutes at Selhurst - a free header from 8 yards, that he honestly SHOULD have scored. Excellent player, but should not be immune from criticism.

It was a good chance. Wouldn't say fantastic. The ball arrived fast and too low. Even RVP doesn't take every opportunity.

He'll get a lot of goals as long as he's free to get in the right areas.

Yeah, I can't remember Ulloa having a chance like that only Hammond. And even if he did that's still only one chance in 180 minutes plus of football

He did have a chance like that, before Hammonds. But as trueblue pointed out, it was a half chance with the ball coming fast and low, so I don't think you could blame him for not converting.

I dont think anyone who states he is as good as first thought is claiming he cant be immune from criticism ....indeed maybe the players should be taking some of that being aimed at Poyet.

Is he as good as loads of people on here made out after a few good games? No.

Is he a decent striker who has made a big difference to our season? Yes.

Would like to see him paired with Mackail-Smith when fit. Will probably need Gus to move on for that to happen though...

I will be putting money on him to be top goalscorer next year. Hoping for 16/1. He will go under the radar a bit, I think.

I think that will be a great bet and surely more than 16/1. RVP was 9/1 at the start of this season...

Whatever the level of service he received, both his first touch and speed are two areas of 'concern'.

You obviously know nothing about football. His first touch is absolutely second to none, I've never seen so many good first touches in my life. Not all strikers need speed, certainly not ones of his build.

It's a real shame CMS got injured just after we signed Ulloa, I'd love to see them both play up front together.

I know Gus wont do that, and in general very few managers play 2 up front now and tend to go for 1 up front and 5 miidfielders but one upside of Gus leaving (upsetting as it would be) is that we might see a manager who does, at least when we are favourites, play 2 up front.

I think CMS and Ulloa could be incredible together.

He's as good if not better than I'd hoped - It's not like we signed a player with a great reputation at this level of football and he's not delivered is it ? :)

If Poyet stays, he will probably end up playing him in midfield which is exactly what he did with Barnes. For me, Barnes is a much better player when used as an out and out striker.
Ulloa has played too many games in a short space of time. He wasn't match fit when he arrived and, as other posters say, a good pre season will sort him out. His hold up play and heading are some of the best we have had for a while.

I'd prefer two wingers, we have to quality wingers and a striker who is the best in the Championship at winning headers/holding up play, what not use that

Neither Palace strikers over the 2 legs had a chance either - both teams played it tight and cagey.

What Ulloa does that CMS can't do is hold it up, muscle defenders, and also distribute effectively. If he's not scoring he's still an influence on the game. He'll fire us up this league next season.

I just hope Gus or whoever (you don't know these days) partners Ulloa with CMS! Goals will be coming in left right and centre!!!
