Ulloa, is he not as good as we all thought?

Which is completely TRUE, but too some CMS is pony while Ulloa is the dogs.

How does that work?

There are two answers to this,

a) You've never seen both of them play (or you only saw Ulloa in Monday's game) or

b) Football isn't really the sport for you!

I think that if CMS can get some training in early season come October/ November him and Ulloa will be playing together scoring goals for fun and causing all defences problems.

He is a decent Championship player and £2 million was about the right price. The honeymoon period may be over though. Opposing teams will work out his game and restrict his opportunities. He will need decent support and cannot be expected to carry the attack for the whole season and particularly a one man strike force.

The difference between CMS and Ulloa was perfectly illustrated in the last min of the Arsenal game. CMS gets shoved in the box and falls theatrically to the ground. Yes, seen them given, but the ball was there to be won. Had that been Ulloa underneath that ball in the box, he'd have shrugged off the clumsy challenge from the centre half, and planted the ball into the roof of the net with another strong header, as he had already done from a brilliant Barnes cross.

As for his current form, no striker thrives on no service at all, and Ulloa is no different. Orlandi and Spanish Dave were shocking on Monday. And also, Ulloa is tired after leading the line on his own for that seven game period without Barnes and with CMS and Hoskins long term injured.

This isn't a reactionary thread purely down to Monday night, but I think he's been poor for 4/5 games now (even when he scored against Leeds). Is the honeymoon period over, or is it down to him getting little service?

Needs support up front, just like CMS, its too much to expect one man to lead the line at home and away. Consistently playing one man on his own has been a hinderance to us. He has looked tired, but a young man not getting service, continually being beaten and then having nowhere to go when he wins a ball is deflating. He's a long way from home also, i'm undecided atm.

Monday night his performance was down to Orlandi, Dave and Buckley going MIA. Can't be faulted at all IMO

Agree, he was hung out to dry on monday night by a poor midfield. Also thanks to Barnes he has had to carry a ridiculous workload over the last two months. Considering there is normally a lengthy acclimatisation period for players from sunnier climes I think Ulloa has exceeded expectations. It's certainly not his fault we lost on monday.

Wrong and wrong.
Ulloa is clearly a better striker than CMS, I firmly believe he'll be on to bigger and better things.

But we have been prone to play with no cutting edge, did we not go 4 1/2 games without scoring.
At those points in the season Ulloa CMS RVP Messi couldn't score for us.
Only when the team play like that for CMS, he's s***e.
When it happens to Ulloa, everybody else is.

Yeah totally agree, as above.

Gus would leave us in a very strong position.
When push comes to shove we seem keen to play onto Ulloa's flick-ons and close control.

If he and CMS were allowed to play in the same team, and could forge a partnership, we could be in for a very very exciting season.

I will be putting money on him to be top goalscorer next year. Hoping for 16/1. He will go under the radar a bit, I think.

He looked absolutely knackered and not getting any service didn't help, still bit of a break now and a decent pre-season will have the man from Argentina banging in the goals.

Not sure on how you can judge a player adapting in a new country and style of football in a handful of games. From what I have seen so far he is a great prospect.

To say he had NO chances or service in the Palace games is simply not true. He had a fantastic chance after just 7 minutes at Selhurst - a free header from 8 yards, that he honestly SHOULD have scored. Excellent player, but should not be immune from criticism.

Isolated , and was dropping to deep to join up in play, looked a little tired Monday perhaps 2 games in 3 days was a little to much after only half of season of football ?
