I think the lib dems will sneak it ahead of the tories and UKIP. All signs showing that the voters down there are rightly ignoring the standard central govt politics and scandal shit.

Can't see the Lib Dems losing it. Will be interesting to see how the Labour vote does, to indicate how they are doing in the South East, and how much UKIP take from the Conservatives, as it might split the centre-right/right vote come the next General Election.

A lot can change in the next two years though.

Significant Labour majority? The prospect of Ed Balls as Chancellor will ensure any majority would be slim at best.

I would rather have Ed Balls than the present bungling incompetent uncaring nincompoop.

I am about half a mile outside the constituency as well - in Winchester - but until the last election was in the Eastleigh constituency.

My main impression is that the locals are thoroughly fed up with the whole thing. One Conservative former mayor that I know thinks the Lib-Dems will hold it.

I'm tempted to say that if UKIP can't win a by-election here then they can't win anywhere. People always vote against unpopular governments in mid-term by-elections, and here there are TWO government parties to vote against! It's a tailor-made opportunity for a protest vote.

And a great opportunity for HKFC et al to witness first hand how an expert venture capitalist (her claim) deals with having a full time job as an elected MP. Hopefully we'll be rid of her from Waverley BC for good although I somehow doubt whether she'd ever move from her current pad in Ewhurst.

Both are as bad as each other - I could go to the local primary school and find a dozen kids with better mathematical skills than either Osbourne or Balls. Balls in charge of our economy would be an absolute disaster.

I don't think that you could. Balls..whatever we might think of him as an individual...is a fairly well respected economist and Osbourne...dreadful closet queen and coke head that he is.. is at least numerate. The fact is that neither of them are capable of taking the bold steps needed for the UK because of short term political imperatives. It would take a total fiscal meltdown for them to do the right thing.

Crap Town
1/ Lib Dem
2 / Tory
3 / UKIP
4 / Labour.

The betting odds indicate it that way too , UKIP may have too much of a gap to close on LibDems but could finish ahead of the Conservatives. Nigel Farage will be over the moon if UKIP get more than 25%

Have you actually met Balls ? The guy is a buffoon and makes Boris Johnson look normal !

Balls may have been, at one point, a credible economist, when he was at Harvard or the FT. However as far as I'm aware there's no such perception of him as such now; everything that comes out of his mouth is far too political. As for Osbourne, he may be numerate (I've never had the pleasure) but he's certainly no economist, as his policies clearly illustrate.
