UK rap has been in the background for years, but seems that certain artists have raised its profile over the last few years, because they are rapping about more serious social matters.
Ive mainly listened to reggae and soul over the years, and it has overlapped a bit of late, but mainly because of the content.

UK artists are getting a lot more coverage these days but I'm not sure it's due to the content. Acts like Jehst, Braintax, Roots Manuva, Rodney P, Task Force and many more were doing it years ago.

Understand. I dont like all of it, but who likes all the music of any genre. As for me being in my 60s, Pete and Bas are in their 70s, and have a couple of things out there. Thought it was a spoof at first, but its actually genuine. ... and they make me laugh

Must admit I don’t really consider rap as music . I feel it is just for people that can talk fast but can’t hold a melody for a song . I also find often although not always rap seems to sound aggressive, with derogatory words about women and various swear words and other offensive words like the N word.

Not for me , I’d never let my kids listen to this sort of noise .

Anyone else notice that most adverts seem to have mixed race couples, mainly a black man and a white woman? It’s almost as if they are telling us that’s how it should be.

Why do we need to "nip it in the bud"? Non-hispanic whites are now a minority in California and they're doing alright. I'd rather have some tacos or a decent Korean meal than a burger anyway.

I know what you mean about adverts, they love a mixed race couple. Companies want to show they are modern and diverse. I don't find it that strange though- just thinking about my old school mates who i'm in a whatsapp group with, over half are in mixed-race relationships.

Some of the American youtube hiphop reactors are pretty funny. Nolifeshaqs reaction to aitch's Straight Rhymez, which put him in the limelight was pretty funny. Some of these reactors are influencing in the US, and their enthusiasm for UK rap cant be disguised, and I think thats helping to spread.

I was lucky enough to pick up a copy of Akala's book 'Natives' in a charity shop very recently. I knew of him but not too much about him, but from other stuff I've seen & heard since have concluded that he has a talent that is astonishing & an intellect that is mind-blowing. Reading his book was genuinely consciousness changing.

(He has a Sussex history btw; ok a few years growing up in Crawley, but it still sort of counts )
