How long is left on Ryan's contract?

In an ideal world, we'd always have a back up goalkeeper who is a threat to the starting keeper. Not one who we look at as able to 'do a job' if our starter gets injured, or called up to the international squad for a non-european competition (i.e. where the premier league is suspended for international breaks). But someone who we could see dropping the starter for, if something needs to be done.

I think it's all the more important to have such an option when your starter's contract negotiations are due. If there's no competition for the jersey, that keeper holds more power in negotiations.

Every position in the squad should several players in competition for it.

It's what makes competitive players push themselves to be better.

As it stands Maty has no real competition from any of the clubs other keepers. Makes sense to get in another keeper who can provide that competition for him.

Fine, I'll take the bullet to end this whimpering.

I apologise sincerely to you Vagabond for disagreeing on the goalkeeper subject. I, and likely plenty with me, probably didnt realise the opinion "nah, Ryan is good" would be percieved as a personal attack on you or that you would go months asking for apologies.

Move on.

Actually Swanny you’re not one of the fan club members I’m thinking of. You’re alright by me [emoji482]

From listening to the other players talk about Ryan he’s an ultra professional and takes his preparation very seriously

I’m not sure competition will get anymore out of him to be honest

Though I do agree all positions should have it

Although a lovely WAG, the bloke's stides are too short and he's not wearing any socks with his wedding suit. :wanker:

I too was extremely disturbed by his attire. He gonna have to find himself a personal dresser if he wants to look sharp enough for BHAFC:lolol:

Is that fair? I don't remember obvious errors. I do remember his outstanding save against Saints. But obviously every single position can be upgraded - if they couldn't we'd be champions. Potter may well want someone who commands his box more and can keep out more shots from distance at the corners, allowing us to play a higher line. Ryan's footwork and instinctive saves are up there with the best though.

Ultimately a goalkeeper is part of that defensive unit and if there are doubts there in the team we wouldn't necessarily know as fans. And it may just come down to having real competition for the spot, perhaps they hoped Walton would provide that by now, but have concluded he won't.

Can I also be the first to query 'work permit', as well?

international goalkeeper played for a high ranked country and played in euros... plus fee and wages will push him over the line.

If we are to improve, a better player inn any position is a positive step forward. Similarly, any player in our squad could be replaced by a better one (though that might cost a lot in some cases).
Yes, we could be improved by having a better goalkeeper - but the one we've got is pretty good, and I just don't see 'new goalkeeper' is a priority right now.

No way are we in for him now Sanchez is in the team. This is a guy being linked with some seriously massive teams.

Not a chance we're spending that much a on goalkeeper now Sanchez has proven himself. We're more linking to find an older keeper who's been released from a bigger club. A Caballero type player.

Unless there's something else happening that we don't know about

That's the only reason for us to still be interested in another top keeper.
As a young player in the Spain squad I would expect there is a good chance in a season or two that Sanchez will be linked with some of the European big guns.
But I can't see that happening until he has a full season under his belt.

We all know that our current need is a goalscorer.

I asked my friend who's a Galatasaray fan if this site is reliable. He says 'no Turkish news are reliable' :lolol:

If we were only reliant on reliable transfer news - we wouldn't have transfer news

Now where's the fun in that?

Ah, thought you might not have been serious, and some of the online stuff about this kind of thing, as with many other things, is just junk.

Swansman actually nailed it (really) in #55

Er .. for the bonus, Dutch smoker killed by the habit? Bloody hell. That's a bit easy :)

Can we get a bloody striker instead please? Will someone grip the issue for once? Do we really need another keeper?
