[Albion] Tuchel announces his first England squad tomorrow, are we expecting any Brighton players to make the cut?..

Not a squad to get the pulse racing but we're only playing Latvia and Albania so you'd imagine it'll all be o.k.

Some of the choices are a bit worrying though, hopefully the next few squads will be better.

It really is.

Burn- really average PL defender, nearly 33 years old, nice bloke but nowhere near England class.

Henderson- has had stick from the Dutch press recently, not exactly lighting up the Eredivisie, has done absolutely nothing to merit a call up.

Quansah- has been really poor for much of this season. Only plays when Van Dijk or Konate are injured and Liverpool fans are all terrified when he does.

Walker- past it.

Additionally, if we're talking about form, then Rashford, Eze, Colwill and Foden have all had below average seasons, though I'm not saying they're bad players. All are part of the form v class argument, aren't they? But it must be disheartening for the likes of Gibbs-White and Anderson (assuming he wants to play for England rather than Scotland) to see Henderson, Burn and Quansah etc being picked ahead of them despite their obvious lack of top class attributes.

On the plus side, there was talk he'd pick Tyrick Mitchell again so at least we're spared that, and Noni Madueke.
This all day long. Anderson and MGW should have been among the first two names picked if selecting on form.

I've probably done the Burn selection to death on this thread but you're also spot on about Quansah. Foden's gone backwards this season and Rashford is only just coming out of the most difficult period of his career.

I don't get the criticism of Dan Burn. Had Tuchel done what his predecessor always did and fallen back on Maguire as the head it, boot it option, nobody in the media would have blinked. Burn is pretty much as good a footballer as Maguire. He is in better form, playing for a more successful team, has more recent experience of Champions League Football and can cover in a position that England are notoriously short in. He comes across as a better influence on his teammates than Maguire is and is more positionally sound. Maguire has 64 caps for England, but people reckon that giving BDB one sullies the honour. Absolute guff.

I was annoyed when he gave it loads after scoring against us, but I say good luck to him. It's lovely to see a player go from rejection from his home town club, National League, Divs 2 & 1, Championship, nasty leg break, being bought by Brighton, home town redemption, ECL qualification and England selection. He might have rick in him, but who hasn't? Stones, Maguire, Walker, Guehi, Colwill, Dunky, you name them, they've all been done by a striker at some point. That doesn't make them bad defenders. The big worry about Guehi and Colwill being England's future CB pairing is that they are both fairly poor in the air, so if you're going to play a three, why not get in an utterly committed giant to do that job, then give it to the more fashionable players?
Not a very fair comparison since Maguire has been world class for England, you are judging on his club form. Which other player is pulling up trees at Old Trafford these days?

I don't mind Tommy Tootler not acting like Southgate and picking schoolboys to give them experience for their long journey to become internationals.
He can act like Mourinho and select only the best available elite players. Why not?
He is first team coach not head of development, after all.

However he has picked some right old clunkers, as noted by @Lady Whistledown above.

f***ing Henderson. f***ing Burn. f***ing Quansah. f***ing Walker. What the actual f***.

I recon this is a secret German plan to make us look like a bunch of hopeless wankers.

Curtis Jones too. If he was playing for us, Fulham or Bournemouth, he wouldn't have a sniff of selection. Big club bias kicking in there.

I think it is more what picking Burn, Walker and Henderson represents. Tuchel will have absolutely no interest in developing young players he's purely been brought in to win the World Cup (ironically picking those three is not gonna do that). We all like to think we'd do a better job of picking an England squad but picking these three seems to be a backward step. Perhaps it's just while he sorts out the squad culture he wants (after all he doesn't really know how all these players will be in camp) but not picking Gibbs-White or Manioo or Delap seems short-sighted to me.

Why should Kobbe Mainoo get called up?

Burn will always have a place in the hearts of the Albion support, but this selection is almost laughable, even with my Blue and White obvious bias and I know he's come in for a bit a stick from certain quarters but Adam Webster would have been a fairer shout, he's younger, in good form, and arguably a better all round defender.

When, exactly? Admittedly he was good during the time he was at Leicester, and for the first couple of years at United - less so since. Good, yes, but world class? Come on, you're having a laugh!

Yup yup. I'm all in on the "Dan Burn is shit" ride. Doesn't matter that he season after season is among the highest rated English defenders in the Premier League by various statistical aggregators: he will definitely struggle at "international level".

Can he put Oussama Dembele in his pocket like he did against PSG last season? Sure. But against Albania and Latvia... nah, not going to work out.

Don't forget Palmer, has been anonymous pretty much the whole calendar year.

Ability wise, Dan Burn was probably the worst player we’ve had in our Premier League era. Him getting a call up at the age of 32 is bizarre.

I personally don’t like the England team anymore so it’s a shame they’re not playing anyone good as it would have been entertaining to see Burn get destroyed.
What? Dan Burn was ability wise the worst player we’ve had in the Premier League! Nowhere near the worst.

Jurgen Locadia was definitely worse.
