Some questionable choices in that squad, but tbf to Tuchel, for once it is weighted towards players who has been playing well rather than players who should be playing well.

What's happened to that '55 man squad' that was being talked about (on TS anyway). There's only 26 (at a quick rough count) in that squad.

He was meant to have spoken to over 55 players in the last few weeks about plans etc, and "building relationships" with those players according to FA boss Mark Bullingham. He was never going to name a squad that big though as you can only name 23 in the match day squad so 30+ sat around twiddling their thumbs just wasn't going to happen.

Dan Burn is an incredibly average footballer, who should be absolutely nowhere near the England squad. TBH if they were allowed to spend their billions, he'd be nowhere near the Newcastle squad.
I still think (and I said it at the time, on here) that we let Newcastle have him too cheaply. He's been a stalwart for one of our rivals ever since. He's also living a dream playing for his boyhood club, and he always gave 100% playing for us, so my feeling is more on the lines of, good luck to him.

He’s a good honest pro and an excellent team player. However, I don’t remember a single Brighton fan suggesting Burn for England when he was here and my Geordie colleague certainly didn’t when we discussed it yesterday.

He’s had a few solid games this season but I also remember him getting absolutely rinsed by Adama Traore in the Potter years.
I've been suggesting it for years.
Yes, Dan Burn had one bad game against Adama Traore. If we look at Englands other options, they've also had one bad game against one player or another.

The biggest issue people have had with Dan Burn is always that a 2m defender playing as left back doesn't fit their idea of what a left back is, so any poor game or any mistake he does is counted ten-folded because of confirmation bias.

Henderson is the stand out oddity. But I have no idea what he's been doing at Ajax. Has he been playing regularly and playing well? Never let England down and probably a case of having a few wise heads in the team. A useful 80th min sub to bring on to see a game out against er Albania and Latvia 😃

I can see that, but always assumed of course that it would be rapidly culled after the first get together. Oh well, it is what it is!

He has indeed been playing well for Ajax but I think Tuchel has read a bit too much into that. By Eredivisie standards he is a great balance midfielder, but the Eredivisie... well.

Newcastle and Brighton have both won games, with Burn either as LB or LCB, against opposition far more competent than anything England will be facing during the next year.

Evidence = my eyes watching Dan Burn play a key role in a very solid Brighton (& later Newcastle) defence for years.
Dan Burn is a footballer who should be applauded for making the absolute best of his limited skills and talent. But an international defender he ain't.

Ability wise, Dan Burn was probably the worst player we’ve had in our Premier League era. Him getting a call up at the age of 32 is bizarre.

I personally don’t like the England team anymore so it’s a shame they’re not playing anyone good as it would have been entertaining to see Burn get destroyed.

He deserves a call up for England now. Surprised Gilmour isn't an option for this squad,
Given our problems at left back it’s astonishing that Gareth Bale hasn’t been given a go….

Ok, so he can play in the Premier League where every team would beat 98% of all national teams, but he isn't good enough to play international football?
