[News] Trouble in The Dam

I've been watching this all day on the news and via radio.
I think I can honestly say that Amsterdam and the Ajax fans were the friendliest of all the teams we played in Europe.
Shared metro trains to and from the ground. My disabled mate was taken through the home stand and no problems. A great welcome from those in the town. What was it, 6000+ Albion in town and I didn't see or hear any problems, even when we beat them. The after party in the centre went perfectly.
So I say to all the press, stop mentioning football. It may well have been a segment of the Maccabi fans who went looking for trouble, the same as a small contingent of Amsterdam idiots may have thought the same. But it was not football fans fighting football fans.
I don’t know how many times it needs to be said but it absolutely wasn’t anything to do with Ajax or any football fans for that matter.

Agree about reputation but not every fan following a club is an ultra and I suspect it's often the non violent ones that get targeted.
This is rarely ever the case the elements of clubs want to fight the other elements of clubs who are into violence.
Occasionally it happens but that’s not really the name of the game to pick on a scarfer so to speak and would be frowned upon.

Agree with the last bit. Absolutely sick of the middle east and their horrendous never ending wars.

Having read both sides seems like both sets of fans as bad as each other !!

Strangely daily mail ran a story attributing more blame to tel aviv fans

Oooohhh climbed up a flagpole and ripped a flag down….tough guy…
Deserves to chase down a street and hounded, asked for ID, then beaten up by a mob then….

You're a football fan !! You know Tel Aviv have a rep. They were causing trouble all day in Amsterdam before the game, smashing up taxis and scuffling with taxi drivers. What did you think was gonna happen.... The other side would just take it lying down.

The reporting of this is quite scarily one sided ..... You've even got biden jumping on the bandwagon now.

Bizarre

It beggars belief that Israeli teams are allowed to participate in European tournaments
Should be banned until they leave the occupied territories. No better than Russia IMO.

You’re quite Clearly suiting your own agenda, surprise, surprise the same people have turned up again and completely made it about themselves, as they do on every thread about this subject.

A bunch of notorious fascist hoolies being made out to be Anne Frank by world leaders. I've never seen such an industrial scale of lying in all my life, every day brings new record highs of screaming bullshit, all to defend tens of thousands of Palestinian families being shredded alive

Agree about reputation but not every fan following a club is an ultra and I suspect it's often the non violent ones that get targeted.

There were (and still probably are) fans in this country who didn't like their clubs signing black players or even more ridiculously hated the oppositions black players but 'tolerated' their own. It's not that long ago that bananas were thrown on pitches. But again nowhere near the majority.

Its also not that long ago when English fans were very anti Irish because of the Troubles and they were pretty minor to what is going on in the ME.

What went on is wrong on many levels and sides and for someone to say the beatings were ok because their fans generally have a bad reputation is monstrous.
Other comments on here that this isn't to be viewed solely through a football disorder lens are spot on..

There is a large North African / Middle Eastern diaspora in Amsterdam (as seen after Morocco’s run to the WC semi’s a few years back)… confronted with reports of some rather nationalist Israeli ultras going to a game.

Some of those Maccabi fans are men who will know people involved in the war.. but are probably less likely to be sympathetic or see the real picture of what is happening to the civilians. They are indoctrinated.

In any case, I dont think you can go around a city tearing down flags (be that of the host country, or clearly somewhere that some local residents care about) and not expect trouble afterwards.

Would also add - has been some trouble within dutch football fanbases between groups of their own supporters with Jewish / Islamic backgrounds since the war started

Not really. As you can see from other threads I'm not really a loony lefty! And I've been sympathetic to israels cause. I would rather the whole thing was kept out of Europe to be honest.

I just found this story really interesting and the way the media have portrayed it.

This is worth a read. The Amsterdam police chief says, “Israeli supporters had removed a Palestinian flag from a wall and set it alight and attacked a taxi, although there had been no further trouble until the following night”.

From the mayor, "I am deeply ashamed of the behaviour that unfolded," Halsema told reporters. "On Telegram [messaging] groups people talked of going to hunt down Jews. It's so terrible I can't find the words for it."

“Going to hunt down Jews”. What happened after the match is nothing to do with two sets of ‘ultras’ having a mutual punch up.

Is it possible for Macabbi and Celtic to meet further into the competition?

I would take on a streaming subscription to watch that.

Sorry I was doing a poor attempt at sarcasm there.
