Vankleek Hill, actually....
I'm just listening to "Rainbow of Mine" by Beam and Yanou (Cyrus Radio Mix) on my iPod which is track 13 of 13 on disc 2 from the Trance Nation 01 >> 00 CD and I've decided it's a fantastic piece of mixed music.

[yt]e1I5FGWZPSI&fmt=18[/yt]

The mixed version on the CD doesn't have the lyrics as the Youtube video, which I think makes it better as I prefer more instrumental to lyrics.

Can any NSC'ers out there recommend something similar that might be worthy of purchase?

P.S. I'm a huge fan of heavy metal, but there's something about this song that makes me want to drive in an open top motor with this tune blasting out the stereo system at the loudest possible volume.

Whats the difference between Trance and Ambient (and Lounge for that matter)?

All trance records sound exactly the same.

If you like that then try Delerium - Silence

For varying reasons, personal favourites of mine are:

Thrillseekers - Synaesthesia

Push - The Legacy

Rank 1 - Airwave

If you want a CD with the big tunes on there millions of Trance classics compilations around, they release a couple every year.

House, Acid House, Deep House, Hardcore, Happy Hardcore, Gabba, Trance, Techno, Garage, Jungle, Drum and Bass = Dance Music

I would rather not put them in categories anymore and just call everything Dance Music. It all sounds good.

Thats very clearly not trance though, adrian...

For that era of trance, the easiest/cheapest (if you buy music) way is to get compliations like Classic Euphoria or Classic Trance Nation.

sorry but that rainbow of mine track is bullshit, whereas this on the other hand is more like it. Progressive Trance (Dance Music at its finest) by Dj Atlantis- Return to atlantis tied in with Rank 1- Airwave

Trance used to be proggressive and hard but then for some reason over the years the charty uplifting stuff suddenly was started to be called trance.

lots of different types of trance

hard trance
psytrance
etc

that stuff from the OP isnt trance in my opinion

trance can still be hard

my favourite genre is darkpsy (dark psychedelic trance)

true, except for gabba and happy hardcore which are utter gash.

i recommend you find Age of Love, Jam & Spoon mix, widely seen as the first trance track. only problem is, with such track to start from, its all slightly down hill from there.

Trance used to be proggressive and hard but then for some reason over the years the charty uplifting stuff suddenly was started to be called trance.

That was about 2001/2, though. We're back to progressive and/or hard stuff being "called trance" now. There's still as much "charty uplifting" stuff about - often the same artists have both.

Compare Exactly and Find Yourself by John O'Callaghan to see both by the same person in the space of an album...

Admittedly, the biggest name in British trance these days is very much uplifting, hands in the air, singalong style (Above & Beyond) but that doesn't mean theres not other stuff out there.

Anyway, as goes specific recommendations, my top 5 tracks of all time at the moment (worlds most contradictory statement alert!):

Coast2Coast - Home (5am remix)
Simon Patterson - F16
Bedrock - Heaven Scent
Paul van Dyk - Crush
Rank 1 - Airwave
