Guidance to Police from the CPS in regard to the Representation of the People Act 1983.

Practically, it is always worthwhile when advising the police, particularly when they have received a complaint from a political opponent, to suggest that they get the complainant to identify which of the provisions of the RPA they claim have been breached.

Section 176 lays down the time-limit for the commencement of proceedings for any offence under any provision contained in or made under RPA 1983. That applies to summary only offences which would normally, by virtue of the Magistrates’ Courts Act 1980, be subject to a 6-month time limit.

Proceedings against a person in respect of any offence to which Section 176 applies must be commenced within one year after the offence was committed. For the purpose of Section 176, the laying of information is deemed to be the commencement of the proceedings. There are circumstances in which the time limit can be extended but an application to a Magistrates’ Court do so must be made within the 12-month time limit.

Why are the Police investigating something that appears to have a 12 month time limit?
To try and implicate Andy Burnham, who is PCC in Manchester?

Came across this clip on you tube.

Why did this country let Maggie do all this?

We elected her three times 🙈

She had the nation mesmerized. Just like Johnson had the nation mesmerized, and Trump has a big swathe of the US mesmerized. Once you get mesmerized, all rational thought ceases, and all you see is what you want to see.

I had no trouble loathing Thatcher at the time. However, although I never voted for him, I found myself chuckling at the comedy chat from Johnson, and had to actively resist his charm. Obviously Trump repulses me. I still really like 'war criminal' Blair. And despite having rejoined Labour, I struggle to warm to Starmer.

Humans are a funny old lot of rum coves as you well know.
Have a lovely day today - Spring is here!

Edit: just listened to the clip. Made me feel sad and angry. We certainly did need to modernize, and having the likes of Scargill 'holding the nation to ransom' was not good.....but the elimination of empathy and compassion in the process of the 'great leap forward' of privatization was the thing that was most unacceptable. Rather like overseeing a childbirth with trowel and fork. I wonder what the future will bring.

Hundreds of thousands fewer disabled people could receive cold weather payments under the Conservatives’ planned post-election disability benefit reforms, according to an internal government report seen by the Observer.

The briefing, by civil servants at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), says that under the plans, new applicants for disability benefits in England and Wales would only qualify for cold weather payments if they passed a much harsher assessment than exists at present.

Tim Loughton, Easy Worthing and Shoreham, has given up.

Not one of his constituents so I don't know if he was a 'good' MP at that level.

I am aware of some rather grubby expenses.

However, my impression was that he was less of an utter scumbag than the average Tory of late.

Anyway, off you trot.

With all the Tory MPs giving up it will be entertaining/ depressing to see the quality of candidates that they choose to replace them.

He was, for an extensive period of time, my MP. Good riddance.

Jumped ship as polling has shown his seat will go to Labour at next election
