British businesses experiencing “some friction” when trading with the European Union after Brexit is the “price you pay” for “being a sovereign state again”, a government minister has said.

On the fourth anniversary of Britain officially leaving the European union, the health minister and Brexiter Andrea Leadsom said UK firms should “adapt” to the change in trade rules after new checks were brought in on food, drink and some agricultural products – suggesting they should not buy goods from Europe.

f***ing hell. If Britain allows these clowns to continue I’m almost at the point of buying a rubber dinghy and asking for refuge in France.

There are no new checks. This is part of the Brexit Agreement that the government kept postponing because they knew how much it will affect us.
This lot will now blame Labour as they are more likely to win the next election.
Grifters gonna grift. Liars gonna lie.

Of course Johnson and his cronies were adamant "'There will be no non-tariffs barriers to trade". A lie told on Christmas Eve 2020 while everyone was distracted

Sadly, our media is almost completely dysfunctional, very few outlets are calling this out.

Thousands of delicatessens and other specialist food shops have said new border rules that come in from Wednesday are likely to mean reduced choice of products for consumers.

The Guild of Fine Food (GFF), which represents 12,000 businesses, has raised fears that European suppliers of specialist foods such as cheeses and meats will stop supplying the UK as a result of the additional red tape for imported goods.

The government is introducing the biggest changes to the way the UK imports food and plant products from the EU since it left the single market in January 2021.

The changes, known as the Border Target Operating Model, will require all imports of medium and high risk products, which include meat and dairy and the majority of plants, to be sent with export health certificates from Wednesday.

On 30 April, these products will receive physical checks at the border before they can enter the UK.

Now Raab gets a kicking for giving the poor impoverished barristers a 15% pay deal when the experts said a max of 11%. I remind you that this was at a time when the government was refusing to give nurses 5%.

"Let them eat turnips"

Mind you, I have to say that although she's an abomination, Coffey has a point. It might lead to a less interesting diet at certain points of the year, but eating seasonally is a good idea from an environmental point of view (and quality/flavour too). We've just become used to cheap & easy imports from sunnier parts of the world.

However, I'm not sure she'd be pushing that agenda if it wasn't to paper over some Brexit cracks in the UK's food importing industry.

EDIT:
I do love a bit of coldwarSteve:

Solicitors are not barristers and legal aid has been underfunded for the last 14 years. Many solicitors are not taking on defence work at all now. As the article says, 1400 duty solicitors have quit since 2017.

That can't be right - hasn't the party of Law & Order been at the wheel since 2010?

Next, you'll be telling me they've overseen the closure of over 50% of magistrates courts!

IDS = snowflake

With a majority of 1200 his focus would be spent better elsewhere
Talking of spending, £40K of tax payers money, on taking the case to the High Court, and now the Supreme Court despite a judge saying the word 'scum' is not that offensive!

The retirement age will have to rise to 71 for middle-aged workers across the UK, according to research into the impact of growing life expectancy and falling birthrates on the state pension.

The UK pension age of 66 is set to rise to 67 between May 2026 and March 2028. From 2044, it is expected to rise to 68.

Particularly grim when you take into account who is living longer. No retirement incoming for plenty of working people.

Maybe pensions should become means tested?
