I agree personalities come into it, but it is definitely not a mandate to stay in Downing Street, by any stretch of the imagination..

So many ministers have resigned now, the government cannot function. Meetings of committees have been cancelled today, already.

I agree.

Chris Philp resigns as tech minister, stressing importance of 'integrity, honesty and trust' in politcs

Chris Philp has resigned as minister for tech. In his resignation letter, he says he cannot serve under Boris Johnson any longer because of the importance of “integrity, honesty and trust” in politics.

Normally I would struggle to agree with you and say that we have a tradition of decency, honour and fair play. But, Johnson debases and corrupts anyone, anything and all the great offices of state that he comes in to contact with.

He's like a split tube of reverse Superglue left lying around, anything that contacts it starts to fall apart and disintergrates.

He needs to be thrown out of office by the rules and obligations that we, and particularly the Tory Party stand for. The Cabinet should resign enmasse at 9am this morning and any MP offered a post should refuse it.

Are there any rules that can do that though?
From what I understand the institution relies on a sense of honour and fear of humiliation to force him into line.
As Mick Lynch pointed out, BJ is unembarrassable.

Unless there is a law, which can be invoked, to remove him from office, he will take the nuclear option.

Ben Wallace hasn’t really offered support, but understandably he hasn’t resigned given what’s going on.

It really is just a handful of ministers left.

Tory meltdown incoming...

Someone should remind bumble**** that he got a total of 25,351 votes in the last election. The Tories on the other hand got a lot more.
Mandate my ****ing arse.

Does an election have to be voted on in the commons?

It doesn't: but until March this year, it did. Johnson pushed through the Dissolution and Calling of Parliament Act, removing the power of the Commons to call elections. So, if Johnson does call an election, causing more uncertainty, MPs only have themselves to blame

I see he's also "seriously considering" a leadership bid.

Once BJ finally leaves I think we're going to see quite a few candidates popping up from across the party. The no-confidence vote last month wasn't focused around any concrete alternatives, and even now there aren't any obvious front runners. Potential that the leadership contest will be quite divisive

But he had such a long and fine history of being an honest, hard working, dedicated, economic strategist, excellent international negotiator, master of diplomacy and brilliant leader back in 1996 when he put his Brexit plan forward and then again in 2020 when he explained his brilliant economic plan for the country.

Who could have possibly seen this coming
