I don’t know what happened on Wednesday night but if I was at an event and some bloke made a grab for my cock or pinched my arse I would be pissed off but unlikely to report it to the police or press charges. I really wouldn’t want all the hassle that comes with going to police stations to make statements, pressing charges and waiting for a potential court case that might drag on for months before coming to nothing.

I’d be more likely just to tell him to **** off.

CPS can bring charges if in public interest even if victim doesn’t - although you’d probably need the victim to be happy to give a statement unless there are witnesses. Carolyn Flack’s boyfriend didn’t want to press charges after she twatted him with a lamp for example. Another high-profile case of supposed victim not wanting to pursue was Ched Evans’ ultimately quashed conviction.

Yes, I would probably just let mt displeasure be known to the individual, however, if I later learned that this was a pattern of behaviour and that he gets away with it mostly because no one makes an official complaint to Police, I might then change my mind and make an official complaint.

The CPS treats domestic violence differently to other violence due to the relationship between the offender and victim and the fact that there are rarely reliable witnesses. Even if the victim subsequently withdraws their allegation they will still consider prosecution. This can be problematic as sometimes the "victim" has made a baseless allegation in the heat of an argument (which diminishes the likelihood of convicting genuine abusers).
