John Lamont has resigned as a PPS because he will be voting against Boris Johnson, ITV’s Peter Smith reports.

There's something misreported there, a Principle Private Secretary is a Civil Servant, not an MP and wouldn't have a vote.

(And a GENUINE civil servant, not a SPAD )

*edit* I think he may be a 'Ministerial aide' (desperate junior MP who would brown nose absolutely any minister in a completely unpaid position)

He's going to win and cling on.

For Johnson he knows that it's easier for him to be slippery with the truth and fool people than it is for others to convince the public that they've been made fools of.

Nobody likes to admit the backed the wrong guy when they've had to give up what they value to do so. Pride comes before a fall, and we need to fall a lot lower before they will cart him out of No. 10.

Yes. He has 141 in ‘the hutch’.

I think he’ll get another 100 sadly.

Scottish Conservative MP John Lamont has resigned as a ministerial aide to Foreign Secretary Liz Truss.

The MP for Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk ran Jeremy Hunt's leadership campaign in Scotland in 2019

These Tories MP's don't even need to find their spine to vote him out - it's a secret ballot. Surely they should all say they'll vote in support, lie like their leader, then vote against. Would be a beautiful indictment of his legacy as a leader.

What a deplorable human being he is. Given all of his privileges and start in life, what an absolute disgrace to the human race.
That's what I'd be doing if I was a power hungry Tory.

Do a Johnson on Johnson.

Vote him out and lie about it. Live by the lie, die by the lie.

I thought Trump was tricky but Johnson makes him look like a rank amateur by comparison

Laurence Robertson, the leave-voting MP for Tewkesbury who backed Boris Johnson for the Tory leadership in 2019, has said that he could not support the PM tonight.

He can vote whichever way he chooses. His constituency has to be represented

Well technically this has nothing with constituencies and the MPs definitely aren't voting on behalf oh them .

Also any leadership vote (in the last round) is extended to members.

It's just an internal Tory shit storm.

If he wins, how do you think he'd celebrate?

Humble thanks to loyal friends, genuine promise to do better, instant review of policy and culture?

Or a vat of sparkling wine, vintage red, single malt, a chorus of Voulez Vous and throwing Carrie into the Thames?

Abba, Winner takes it all.

Or Queen, We are the Champions.

Along with enough cheese, wine, various other booze and cocaine to sink the Titanic.
