Agreed. The hypocrisy is much more that for years Stanley’s son was pro EU as well and only swapped in an opportunistic search for power.

Sadly I concur, there are lots of people of many political stripes on here melting down about the state of the Conservative Party, but the Conservative Party itself is carrying on oblivious, and feeling pretty untouchable.

Just as he gave up his dual citizenship with America after he found out as US citizen he had to pay tax over there on property sale gains over here.

The grey suits aren't in action yet because there's no obvious successor. When you've got the likes of Liz Truss as the favourite, then you know things are bad. There will come a time when other potential successors begin to flex their muscles. Perhaps after the Sue Gray report, or after the next round of by-elections. Or maybe after Dominic Cummings produces his Partygate pictures!!

Yeah, this is what I've seen being said. The only reason Boris is surviving is because there's no one in the Tory party who is currently willing or ready to risk challenging him. It feels an awful lot like all of the potential leadership candidates are selfishly keeping their powder dry waiting for "the right time for *me* to challenge" and to hell with the prospects of the party at the next GE (or, indeed, the effective governing of the country!).

Let's face it: if you're a challenger the best time to issue that challenge is after a GE loss. The incumbent will be at their weakest, and the party will be in the mood for change.

It took time to happen, but that's essentially what happened with May although a bit more drawn out as Boris milked the situation for all it was worth. A disastrous GE that, while they remained in power, meant they had lost their majority. The loss of the majority leading to defeats and weakness in Parliament.

While Boris commands a huge majority in Parliament, I'm afraid he'll be able to hang on. He seems quite adept at playing the various factions off against each other, and so far none of the factions have grown large enough to force the issue. Any leadership hopefuls are still keeping their heads down while jockeying for position.

Then surely the hypocrisy was in 2016 and he is just run-hypocritising himself? I don't see why changing your mind, even repeatedly, is hypocrisy. And I don't see why it should cause a Tory meltdown either, for that matter. He's not a Tory official.

I agree. Even if it is hypocrisy, It's not as if inappropriate toucher and wife beater Stanley is a Tory party official

The Met have some questions to answer for sure but it wouldn't have mattered even if they'd found him guilty (a word which has been very carefully avoided during Partygate) of attending every party. Johnson wouldn't have resigned and nobody would have pushed him.

It is very obviously in many people's interests to keep the Johnson / Sunak dynamic in place for now. And by "many people" I mean the global financial elite. It's a money thing. As soon as Johnson / Sunak aren't useful anymore, they'll be out. Not a moment after and certainly not a moment before.

In my opinion, that is what is going on here.

If the gray report is a whitewash then this will also harm boris. I suspect the British view of fair play will come out and people are starting to realise about lies lies lies and deflecting blame onto others etc.
