Does anyone believe a word of this? I thought MPs' expenses were to cover their working costs not their residence(s)

I think he is done now. His odds have gone from 20/1 to 25/1 and are probably still slipping. The Mail has their first victim but will now concentrate their attack on Sunak. I believe that he’d be the one to appeal to the whole Country the most (along with Tuginhat) so hopefully, the Mail can sink him.

I'd be amazed if every candidate hasn't got some murky skeletons in the cupboard....they are Tories after all and their current leader has bullshitted his way around all the dodgy stuff on his CV...I guess the key question will be who has the least damaging revelations and how well they can bullshit??? Zahawi hasn't made a very good start!!

Shapps has odds of 100/1 :lolol:

It's only a mistake because he's been caught out.

And he's not sorry for it. He's sorry for being caught.

It's come to something when all that's on offer is such a motley crew of candidates. I feel that the best anyone can hope for, is that the one who is finally selected, is the one that is capable of inflicting the least harm.
Seriously, that's as good as it's likely to get.

Where does the Conservative party get these people from?

He tries to blame the Chief Whip (=not my fault, I was only following orders) for - telling - him to claim everything?
Then there are two meters but one bill. Difficult to split out the horsey stuff, so claimed it all.

He's got a shedload of money, but claims a relatively small amount from public funds.
Whether or not he is allowed to do so, within the rules, he didn't consider whether this would be a good look or not. He didn't consider it, because he didn't think he'd get found out.

What a career-limiting error of judgement.

Seems all the candidates are banging on about "tax cuts" every time they get to speak. Given tax cuts are inflationary that hardly seems an adequate solution to the sky-high inflation issue.

Spot on and, to add, they obviously have played very little attention to the OBR report released last week (and conveniently for them drowned out by the machinations they collectively created). Some tough, tough choices in front of us. Who's going to be bold enough to level with the public? (My hunch is no-one.)

Every single one of them voted for the NI increase.

Tugenhadt indicated that he didn't, but I suppose that's one of the benefits or being outside the Cabinet and the 'responsibilities' it brings.

He admitted to Kay Burley he doesn't know how rich he is. A millionaire Chancellor is the last thing this country needs.

You're right he didn't but he abstained instead of voting against it.

I would definitely vote for Zahawi. I mean, he's a pretty good bloke to go to such lengths to keep his horses so toasty and warm. Almost certainly he would be well up for helping us out with fuel payments this winter on that form.

And Truss as well. She was bang on about the cheese. Disgraceful.

It will be between those two.

Yeah, but Truss wants to export all our pork to China. I like pork. So I'm out.

Shapps flies his own plane which is registered in the US to keep costs down and benefit from rules that are less stringent than the UK. Clever guy. Would be good for our country if he can spot loopholes well.

people happy to cut their noses here. one might not want any of them, but we'll have a conservative government for the next couple of years. Sunak is not promising rampant tax cuts, understands some of the economic challenge ahead. thinking the best outcome is the one better for Labour, be careful what you wish for.

Johnson in ‘honest’ comment shocker!

Could this be the PM telling the truth for once?

“I wouldn’t want to damage anybody’s chances by offering my support.”

well yes , i would say right now the PM's job is about as attractive as having king kong bundy shart on/in your face .....it's just not a decent position and anyone who wants it has to be a wrong'un.....and i lead you to read the list of current fore runners ffs is this what we have come to ...??

can i ask a question as an aside , if we were to end up with an Indian or Arab as PM do you think we might then have to admit that England as we know it , is finished....gone , nada..?

How are people cutting their noses here? None of us have a say in it, unless we are paid up Conservative party members.

not at all - only a racist would think that way, wouldn't they?
oh do **** off .... !!

even south africa , despite being taken to the cleaners by the Patel / Singh cartel managed to have a home national as their PM , i think it's a great indicator of where the UK is as a whole (hole) if you end up with an Indian /Arab/Russian as your PM ....people like you have earned it ...:lolol:

I come from a family just like yours. I once said something that wasn’t racist. I can sort of smile while reading an auto-cue. Every working parent will get 12p towards the cost of a Findus crispy pancake , £5 every time they look in the mirror, a goodie bag, free ironing service for those who qualify, a subscription to “build your own Titanic” magazine, a T-towel, and I will deliver on the promise of Brexit.

Oh, why don’t you all just FVCK OFF.
