Boris Johnson is facing a fresh threat from Conservative rebels planning a takeover of the powerful backbench committee that could force the prime minister from office.

Opponents of Johnson, including some who were loyal to him as recently as last week, have set their sights on a “clean sweep” of the 1922 Committee amid a hardening of the mood against the prime minister.

The campaign to oust Johnson in the last no-confidence vote was disjointed, but rebels are said to be “getting ruthlessly organised”.

There’s part of me that wants the rebels to fail. They had the perfect opportunity. On a ****ing plate. And they chickened out. I almost think they deserve to be underlings to Johnson. ****ing pussies.

Of course they do.
They deserve everything that's coming to them.
They'll run away from depiffel and his cabal as fast as their little legs will carry them, but the bottom line is they enabled this cluster**** and that should never be forgotten*.

*It will be forgotten in 5 years time and then for the next 20 years as history will once again repeat itself.

Hard to disagree. Every Tory who enabled this absolute disaster of a PM and govt is culpable whatever they do next.

More bad news for Johnson. MPs won't be allowed to bring babies into the House of Commons. How will he manage without his cabinet?

Another one for the Truss-tease.

Truss absolutely floundering on Radio 4 this morning trying to defend cutting the armed forces by 10,000 in the increasingly dangerous world Vladimir has lead us to.

She's got to go when Johnson is deposed.

I do like her new sexy Margaret Thatcher voice though. I wonder if she's for turning?

The trouble is while Johnson is in charge we all suffer. Even as a 68 year old who has never voted Conservative in my life, I would rather have a competent decent Tory in charge than the current bunch.

Where’s Rory Stewart when you need him. I could actually have seen myself voting for him……. Well, almost.

I think this is the thing. I can't vote conservative because of the abhorrent way they're running the country and the complete lack of any moral core to their decision making, but if we're stuck with them until 2025 then oh how I LONG for one, just one, competent Tory to emerge from their ranks to steer the country through to that date.

The entire cabinet is full of utter goons though so if this lying clown gets the boot, there are 15 more lying clowns waiting to step out of the mini and take his place.

Agree. I'd rather we didn't have a Tory government, but I'd rather have a competent Tory with a cabinet not full of people I wouldn't trust with the photocopying

I see Rory's podcast with Alastair Campbell still no.1 in the podcast charts. The more I listen, the more I think we really missed out.

I still can't believe how much damage Johnson has inflicted in the past 2 and a half years.

There is no getting away from it, we've entered into a spiral of decline. I fear for the future of our kids..

Sounds like Johnson might be planning a snap general election... would be very interesting.

I hope so.

Get him gone.

But what happens if Durham police fine Starmer and he resigns mid-campaign ?

I sense potential skullduggery.

If they are consistent, any police action would be put on hold during the campaign like the Met Police did with Johnson's fines.

How many times did Robinson say "That wasn't the question I asked Foreign Secretary"?

She had her script written for her and by thunder she was going to read it whether it related to the questions asked or not. I'm sure R4 only got her on to demonstrate, yet again, what a dim-witted vacuous airhead she is.

There will have to be a major clear out. Very few Tory MPs left with any political acumen since the Johnson massacre and the 2019 intake being selected simply for their loyalty to Johnson and Brexit. Also many of the older MP's such as Bone, IDS and Chope are looking like loonies now days.

Luckily her role isn't too critical. She's only really got to focus on [Checks notes] the Russia/Ukraine crisis.

I'm off to build a nuclear shelter
