[Politics] Tory meltdown finally arrived [was: incoming]...

The defence changes to 'He's not ignored the rules, he just didn't understand them.'

He didn't understand rules that he wrote and that he was telling people every night on television.

They're like four year olds with mouths covered in chocolate shamefacedly adamant that they didn't eat the cake.

Fabricant may be surprised to find that, unlike him, his colleagues and the nurses and teachers that he has just invented when backed into a corner, a lot of public sector employees are subject to drug and alcohol policies that could find them out of work if broken.

Teachers, nurses and relatives of both are exploding on Twitter.
Teachers are saying staffrooms were closed, and nurses would be sacked for consuming alcohol. Fabricant has managed to insult them with his pathetic defence of Johnson.

It was awful to see a number of decent Tories ousted, but one reason that Johnson won such a large majority was because the thought of Corbyn, McDonnell and Abbott etc. in charge of the country was for many, just too awful to contemplate.
I am sure that if Labour had a leadership that was more acceptable to the electorate, the majority would have nothing like 80 odd seats.

How on earth can you blame Labour for this? Johnson got a huge majority on his simplistic promise of Get Brexit Done.

I wonder how many Tories are going to come out in defence on Johnson if he is likely to receive further FPNs.

The Tories got a large majority in seats only.

In actual votes, they didn’t, more people voted against them, than for them. It’s only our not fit for purpose electoral system that gave them such a large majority in the HOC.

Thunder, I am not blaming Labour, but I do think I am stating the obvious.
Corbyn was considered unelectable by much of the electorate and that includes many moderate Labour supporters. Surely you can see that.
Johnson versus Corbyn was certainly not the crème de la crème of choices, was it!

P.S. As an aside, this Tory voted to remain, just in case you were in any doubt.

Our democratic system is not representative, an 80 seat majority with only 30% of registered voters.

As a Tory I can respect, please explain how those three could honestly have been any worse than the people we have running the country. I am not a socialist, and hate the way the left keep sniping at Starmer - apparently because he played politics and binned off these people who simply couldn't win a GE for the reason you outlined - but surely Corbyn would have been far less of a disaster than the people running things now who have been nothing short of an absolute disgrace.

"The PM has got to think hard, and he has got to apologise," says Conservative MP Michael Fabricant.

But he adds he doesn't think Boris Johnson "at any time thought he was breaking the law".

Fabricant argues the prime minister was "just like many teachers and nurses who after a very, very long shift would tend to go back to the staff room and have a quiet drink".

This sort of thing shows how astonishingly out of touch the Conservative Party is. They have confused the pro-Brexit vote with a license to do whatever they want. If I was a Tory councillor, I’d be looking for something else to do in June, thousands could be kicked out in May.

I agree that Corbyn would have been way more competent than Johnson- almost anyone would be

unfortunately he failed to convince large swathes of the British public (plus an absolute hatchet job carried out by the right wing media)

Was this the party in the cabinet room, or the party in his flat?

And will the organiser get a bigger fine?

Edit - it's the cabinet room one, where up to 30 were present. 30 fines today. So - yes, more to come!

The PM should focus on Ukraine and delivering for the people of the UK. He is the right person to lead the party and the country. The PM has apologised and accepted responsibility. We need to be united in our resolve and move forward under his leadership."

The PM won us a massive majority in 2019. The PM is the only person that got Brexit done.

The PM’s the right person to lead the country and focus on getting on with the job of delivering for the British people and protecting Ukraine from the tyranny of Russia.

Corbyn suffered from having obvious hitpoints when it came to the media. Whenever the Mail etc saw the Tories in trouble they'd take something he did or said (or just asked him) and run with it.

He was too easy to score points off. Starmer, love or hate him, is far harder hence the Mail and co barrel scraping at points.

The fines double every time so if Johnson attended 6 parties as has been alleged, he's going to be stumping up £6300.
I wonder who'll pay that for him

It looks like Operation Save Big Dog is in action again.

It’s a cult.

Johnson could take a dump in his adoring acolytes mouths and they would thank him for the warm sustenance, after all big dog got Brexit done.

The cult isn't going anywhere.
