The people defending this step towards lower food standards know full well that it’s a negative step. That it will ultimately harm our own farming industry and risk the health of our population. However, it is a direct result of their vote to leave and to admit that Brexit would have any detrimental effects would be against all the brainwashing and dogma that has been drilled into them over the last five years.

This is all related to Brexit of course, but to do this in the middle of a pandemic which arose due to food safety issues? I can't see any justification for this, and presumably it will hit UK farmers hard.

It will. How anyone thinks this is OK is beyond me. In line with the EU we currently have very high standards of meat, for them to drop all of those requirements is utterly insane. More people will become ill and therefore the NHS will be stretched even further. Farmers will also get shafted.

Not one farmer that I know, supports this, yet a lot of them voted to leave the EU which has notorious high standards. I want to say Karma, but it's not, they fell for the lies and deceit. I feel for the poor and those who voted in the knowledge these kind of things wouldn't happen, but they are, because politicians are disgusting liars.

I really hope there is a huge backlash from this and we don't start dimming down other areas of importance standards wise, we already are by leaving EASA, which we said we wouldn't leave, but we now are. Absolutely mental.

You carry on paying for your Wankerose organic corn feed by Elvin virgins chicken at £27 a kilo and I'll carry on paying £5 a kilo for high welfare chicken from my local butcher that can tell me the exact farm it came from I am at least supporting chicken welfare and a local business.

I can understand why farmers are upset but I think many will be ok if they sell British branded quailty foods to the middle and higher end markets (i.e. yer Sainos and Waitroses plus butchers and specialist grocers).

If anything this will reinforce food apartheid and reduce health standards further in the poor. Our family are currently lucky enough to be choosy about our food and this means we already buy mostly British, meat from the butcher, eggs from Macs farm etc. We won't touch Danish pork or anything that's been through Holland (or we suspect has). But not everyone has that luxury and we might not after covid for all I know.

The final irony of that, though, is that most of the areas that voted for Brexit are stuffed with turkey twizzler guzzling fatties anyway. Yes, that's a snobbish generalisation, before you say so gammon gang, but it's possible for me to make it because it's mostly true. You didn't see Jamie Oliver tackling the fish counter at Hove Waitrose, did you?

Usual scaremongering by the left wing and reamoaners , the government has repeatedly said the current EU standards of food and farming will be transferred as a whole to UK law at a later point in the year, the amendments and adjustments to this process will just make that simple process of transfer of current EU standards to UK standards alot more complicated by changing it at this time!

Not scare mongering, just understanding the facts. Farmer's aren't kicking up a fuss for the sake of it mate. We've been lied to the whole time, surprise surprise. Of course this was going to happen.

Also, I agree that's what was planned, but that's not what is happening, as Michel Barnier said today, we're going back on our commitments, yet again, what a surprise.
