Not forgetting the guff about him laying down his life in order to prevent a third runway at Heathrow. He's devoid of principles, and will do anything that's deemed popular, like his mate across the pond.
He's had a dreadful pandemic, although deserves some praise for focusing on vaccines early on (about the only thing he/they did focus on early on) but the key praise should be going to the scientific community for developing the vaccines and accelerating their roll-out, and the NHS for facilitating and implementing its delivery.

Last time i was down some local hood in his best trackie started verbals at me as i stood outside Furlongs in front of his young lady .My mood after a day on the pop and relegation at Dover was not good . His face as 15 mates piled out and asked what the problem was ,was a picture .

We have some track-suited bellends here for sure. Luckily, being conservative, most of them know their place.

There is a thriving drug culture over the estate. A taxi driver I know has complained to me about characters on a swift in and out from the station to the estate and back, 'dealing' in his estimation. But this is hicksville when it comes to nawtiness, thankfully.

And we were the first town in England to have wall to wall CCTV in the town centre and that killed the regular Friday and Saturday night melees, thankfully.

I'm very fence about Wetherspoons. I agree with a lot of the criticism on here about them; but they are very pro real ale, and the local one in St Helens took a punt on my son who is on the autistic spectrum and have given him paid employment 1 day a week for nearly 10 years now despite his problems and the fact he can't fit in with their usual zero hours requirements (as he needs a support worker with him). I suspect none of that is Tim Martin's doing, but even so it does mean I'll cut the chain a bit of slack!

The flu might kill lots of people a year, but it’s wrong to equate it to COVID-19. My elderly sister in law (78) was very blasé about the whole thing, refusing initially to shield and self isolate because “there is nothing wrong with me”, (she has since found out she has a potentially serious blood disorder).

Her retired consultant surgeon brother changed her mind when he told her and emphasised to her that it is a horrible way to die. It’s far more than just flu.

I'm not saying it isn't. That wasn't really my point although I can't say dying of any illness is particularly nice.

My 84 year old mum has been self isolating since March - so I get it. What I was trying to say was that there are other factors at play here which need to be considered. Of course we have to focus on avoiding deaths but there are far too many other things being ignored at the moment.

Yes, I understood and completely agree with that point. I still think it's worth challenging as it's one of numerous ideas that feeds the idea that a dictator or strong leader is more efficient or otherwise better than a messy, incoherent democracy. Which people like Trump or fascists in other countries use as part of their appeal. Clearly that wasn't what you were implying, and I don't for one moment want to suggest you were.

I don't drink in Wetherspoons, partly because Martin is an unsufferable arse but mostly because his pubs are full of pissheads, scumbags and cheapskates.

I don't want to drink Abbott Ale at £1.95 a pint thgat's gonna turn into rancid piss in a day or so 'cos it's so close to it's sell -by date and bought on the cheap OR eat a curry meal that is no better than a Vesta meal of the 70's blasted in a microwave. Sadly so many people love 'spoons and patronise the places it will be the death knell for proper old fashioned english pubs. At the risk of pigeonholeing,it does seem that a lot of their patrons appear to have their DSS money paid straight to 'spoons and then go and draw it out over the bar.The last time I (reluctantly) went into one of their pubs and having ordered 4 breakfasts,4 "endless" coffees and a pint of Guiness all at £24.00 or a bit less I was told that they wouldn't accept the £50.00 note I proffered. No signs anywhere to advise me, WTF is all that about? When I queried the policy I was told that they had encountered a lot of counterfeit 50's, says a lot about some of their patrons dunnit?

Plus 11 pm closing of pubs must help .Faversham has become a regular stop off on the train from Dover ,can be in town for just after 6pm and train out around 9ish to get back home .

Agree with most of your post but they do not have close to sell by date on their beer, it is the same as everywhere else. in fact as they are busy places they are likely to have very opposite. Wouldn't make any difference I still wouldn't drink in there.

It was my understanding that they could afford to buy beer very close to sell by date as by selling it so cheaply it would go before it turned. I may be wrong of course? You sound like you know differently? Pray tell?

I’m a beer quality manager for a major brewer and used to work for Molson Coors I can confirm without doubt the only reason he can buy the beer cheap is the vast quantity and that he buys well in advance
