Agreed, So what if the club is making money out of it. They have to make money to keep the club running. So its down to the consumer if they want the club to benefit from the resale of S.T seats or the fan to recoup the cost of the resold seat. Cannot see the problem here, the club are hardly going to re-sell seats and expect nil return.

True, but I think they're making even more than you suggest.

If they sell the ticket at £27.17 per match to the STH and they sell it again on the exchange for £39 they have brought in a total of £66.17. They have to refund £20.37 to the STH, but that money has to remain in the club for either food or shop purchases. So there is a case for saying they are actually making £66.17 out of one seat for one match, minus the cost of providing the food/merchandise the STH eventually buys.

They are running a business though, why should they bend over backwards to help someone get their money back for something the club has already sold once. Seems a few STHs want to have their cake and eat it, they reap the benefit of having a good seat with their mates at reduced price and have a guaranteed ticket for all the big games. Yet they still want to get their money back on games they don't fancy so much, have something better to do or cannot attend for some reason.
If you have a train season ticket and are ill or on holiday for a week can you put it on an exchange or let someone else use it? Of course you f***ing can't.
With a BHAFC season ticket you have the (easy) option of selling it on the exchange and getting most of your money back, or selling it on NSC and getting all your money back albeit for a little bit more faff.

I tried to get paper tickets issued for the next 2 games as I can't make either of them and the guy who sits next to me wants them. The ticket office told me that the £5 admin charge per ticket only applied to the first instance of issuing a paper ticket, thereafter it would be £10 a ticket. Therefore the cost to me of getting paper tickets issued for these two games would have been £45, which seems a bit steep for 3 seats, especially as 2 of the tickets are under 10s in the family stand, which only cost a few pounds anyway.

Is it just me or is this whole thread an argument between those who are gonna use the scheme and those who have mates they'll sell their ticket to when they can't go? No losers as far as I can see. Just a lot of hot air.

Does this ticket exchange work for 1901 seats?

What I think is really unfair about it is the fact the money you get back can only go on your smartcard and be used on food/club shop stuff. That's a piss take in my opinion. The actual amounts involved aren't too bad.

Agreed, maybe you should get the choice of 70% back as cash or 80% back as smart card cash ???

Poor form if so - set the price so high as to make it all but unusable.

It would be useful if the club actually detailed this stuff somewhere rather than the present luck-of-the-draw based on who serves you and what mood they are in.

I guess it's only an issue if you are regularly off loading your tickets? If my card was credited with a couple of ticket resales I'm sure I'd be able to spent the money over the course of a season.

I'd probably spend over the course of a day if it was my round at the ground.

Encourages people to use the ticket exchange though.

surely inevitable once they set up their own ticket exchange that they will want to discourage unofficial ticket exchanges.

I don't think it has to be inevitable, no. Compounded on what I consider to be a less than equitable sharing of a ticket exchange sale, I'm not liking this whole thing if I'm honest.

Just as an example of why I think the fact they will only pay money back to a smartcard is wrong, my grandparents are going on holiday tomorrow for three weeks and missing Sheff Wed and Birmingham. They have four season tickets in WSL, in the most expensive price bracket. I told them they could put the tickets on the exchange, and although they don't need the money they would have been happy to do it. But when they found out they would only get smartcard funds they decided not to. They have zero interest in football ground food or club shop merchandise, so it would have been totally pointless. If they were able to recoup a bit of cash I guess they would have done it and the Albion would have four prime seats to sell at £39 each for two matches, making them £180ish. But instead the seats will be empty. It's just a reminder that not everybody drinks pints of beer and dines on pies and sausages.

Do they not have children/grandchildren/great-grandchildren who drink beer/eat pies/would like a xmas or birthday present from the club shop ???

and yet it has happened ...

I'm not disliking it if I'm honest, I like the idea of choosing seats in different parts of the ground, in the security of a sale being done that way, in the knowledge its now easier to get tickets to the game. I would still take Driver8 up on his kind offer, but that won't always be available.

In any case, I always thought the point of buying a ST was if you wanted to go to all of the games - that's how it used to be. On top of that you now get large discounts on match by match seats, essentially guaranteed tickets for any home, away or cup match, discounts on merchandise and food items. Now there's an extra benefit - a partial refund if you can't go the game.

I think Kumquat might have it right about this thread.

Yes, me! But they don't really understand how it works and I don't want to suggest they sell their tickets just so I benefit financially. My point is only that if they were given an amount of cash rather than a smartcard top-up that is useless to them (and a number of older people I wouldn't mind betting) they would quite happily have made all the tickets available and 8 of the best seats in the house would be on the exchange for the next two games. And the Albion would make £20ish on each ticket.

Do it for them, give the grandparents half the money in cash and then you can spend what's on the smart cards. Everyone's a winner.
