Any fan who abuses their own players DURING the game is a plank, end of. As a fan you should do your best to help the team win. If my students abused me during class it would not make me work harder or try to teach better, I would just try to do the bare minimum for them and seek another job.

It's one thing to sigh and groan, another to call the players, we should be saving that for the opposition.

With our backs to the wall it's our duty to make a positive contribution, not consoilidate our reputation of being the Spurs of the South coast and turning on the team as quick as poss.

Well said, It's true Charlie had a bad game, and i'm sure he's none too pleased with himself, the last thing any player needs is fans shouting abuse so they can hear it, it CANNOT help the player improve and can only demoralise him for the rest of that game.

It's true what Race says, that none of those so called 'fans' who shout abuse from the crowd directly at a player would have the guts to say it to their face, especially Charlie.

Let's get behind our players during the game and save the criticism for after.

Come on Lewes aren't that bad. Sure one of the county league sides could find a place for him........ On the bench.

I'd have no problem telling him to his face he's not fit to wear the stripes. What exactly is he gonna do about it?

If he punched me i'd make sure i'd get an injuction stating he couldn't come within 200yards of me. And then i'd sit in the stands at every Brighton game :clap2:

Oatway should never, ever be seen in an ALBION shirt again and he can write (or get someone to write for him) his totally UNFUNNY programme notes in the Lewes programme at a level he is fit for.

OATWAY OUT

No-ones talking about Booing Mr Earnest, it's about those who shout ABUSE directly at a player during a match, no real need for it as far as i am concerned.

If i have something to say Race then i just say it. I'm no hard man by any means, but i'm not a coward either. I'd never talk shit about someone if i couldn't say it to their face. How they react to it has nothing to do with me.

I find this whole thing of player abuse extraordinary. Surely any team or indidual player hardly needs the crowd to remind them when they've just cocked up, or are simply having a 'mare.

I can imagine no circumstances when that kind of abuse has ever improved things.

A psychiatrist writes:
The phenomenon of 'mouthing off' just draws attention to the likelihood of unresolved issues of personal underachievement swirling around in the abuser's own head. It's another example of displacement behaviour.

Well, the 50 minutes is up... see you next week....

Totally disagree. Every fan has every right to have a go at a player. We, the fans, pay their wages. I'm not convinced by your classroom analogy either. You're pupils don't pay your salary do they? So the relationship is totally different

Oatway was just hopeless yesterday and fans have every right to have a go at him because he was shit. If he can't take it then he shouldn't be a professional footballer and certainly not indulge in spats with supporters.

I support the team and do so vocally but I reserve my right to slag or boo them off when they are poor.

My 'pupils' do pay my wages as they are often corporate customers.

If they are poor by all means boo them AT THE END OF MATCH to let them know that you want better next time, but to call Charlie a "Cockjuggling Wanker" or whatever else DURING the game is not going to improve his performance.
