This Drift Towards Resentment Of The 1901 Club

One thing in general that will always be true is that money talks. At the Emirates for Arsenal, it goes like this. Arsenal get a Champions League draw somewhere nice and accessible, like the San Siro or Barcelona. Everyone wants to go, they could sell their allocation out many times over. If a boxholder doesn't get tickets they ring up, give everyone hell, threaten to withdraw their £100,000 a year, and hey presto, some tickets appear at the expense of normal fans. To a lesser extent, this is also true for the other corporate, high-revenue areas. It is an unpleasant truth that is the reality.

dont be so sure. the sort of people buying in to the 1901 club with its resturants and such, are unlikly to be interested so much in an away day trip involving being kept behind for a half hour and a police escort to a scabby south London station.

This!

I think the club really are courting a bad PR issue with the delay in normal season ticket details but it would not be the first time loyal fans are alienated.

The club said that they would let fans pick where they sit when they buy their season tickets. Wouldn't it be a bigger PR disaster if they were then unable to do this? so isn't it better for them to wait until they were ready and able to deliver on this?

It has nothing to do with alienating loyal fans, if they were loyal as you claim, why would they be worried about having to wait just a little bit longer before being able to secure their seats for Falmer?

We get Palace away, almost our entire allocation will have sold out to 1901 members, because realistically most will go.

1 hour on the train, the first chance of going to a derby game, i'm fairly certain well over 1000 will travel from the 1901 club.

Last time we visited Selhurst we took about 3,000 didn't we, the time before that, when they gave us the entire Arthur Waite stand, nearly 6,000. So your maths do not add up. 1000 1901 members going would still leave plenty for the rest of us.

In my opinion the above is right.

You're probably all right then.
But i know at least 20 people who have gone via the 1901 package, and have never been to Withdean before bar the Man City game, if at all. These people I can safely say would ALL go to Palace next season if the game were to happen. I'm just a bit knacked off that they'll get priority over me.
What are there, 3000 1901 members (apologies I dont know the figures), say 1000 go which i think's realistic, those who've been going for years then have to fight it out with 10,000+ STH's for the other remaining 1k. Not fair imo.

You are forgetting the 1901 casual ultras! 4000 strong hardcore thugs who travel incognito till they meet up outside the ground and cause havoc at the tea bar.

At southampton last season many of them carried tic tacs and wuthers originals.

I do see where your coming from and fully understand your concerns and feelings, but rightly or wrongly the club will need as much money as it can get, and the hospitality side of it was always going to happen, and yes, Money does talk, always has done always will.
Personally I think there will be enough seats etc for pretty much most games, unless of course the FA Cup chucks up another West Ham scenario, but if and when it does, it will have to be handled as best as possible, but in the main the club do need to generate as much money as they can for all domestic games.

So why did they join the 1901 club then? They have joined for at least 5 years and commited to £5k. they must have joined for the business reasons or they may as well have just got normal season tickets.

Unless the away trip is a Spurs or Aston Villa.

If 1901 members get priority over STH's at the Amex for those kind of fixtures, then that, as far as I'm concerned, really would suck the BIG one.

Fair enough they can afford a bit extra to watch the Albion at home. But that shouldn't automatically put them at the front of the queue in front off all the other STH's when it comes to away tickets. Thats just not right.

Bloom and Perry are pimping themselves out to the highest bidder.

How many times have we heard: "of course our loyal supporters from Gillingham and Withdean will be looked after and rewarded for there continued support"

What by relegating them to second place for priority on away games??

Spot on.

Someone who can afford £90 per month, should not be given priority over someone with the cheapest season ticket because thats all they can pay.

Unless the away trip is a Spurs or Aston Villa.

Same here. I mean, I'm not going to be a ST holder anyway, so I would lose out in any scenario, but it doesn't seem right to me.

As for existing Withdean STH, there are what, 5500 tops? I can pretty much guarantee 95% of those have either gone for the 1901 club, want to be in the north stand, or want to be in the Family stand. The other 5% were possibly hoping for a nice central East Stand, and thats gone now, so I feel a bit for them. Especially as they can't suddenly join the 1901 club to take those seats because they are being offered to existing 1901 applicants first.

Can't say any of those people have posted here though?

[Me, if I get a ticket I expect it to be in the West Stand gods]

Its £99 + VAT for the platinum seats.
Then £76 + VAT for the gold.

The new 1901 in the east are all platinum, on the half-way line

Food in the lounges is not included, its an extra charge if you want it.

One thing I wonder about is that, as the West stand is the largest stand, but if a large majority are 1901, will it become like the Withdean's north stand? Deadly quiet, not much atmosphere? If so, I am glad I'm not in there!

Hang on. At a lot of away games there are less than a thousand away fans maybe 500/600 fans: these are the ones who should be protected in any ticketing bunfight. Those who just make it to Scum, Charlton and a.n.other haven't earned the same right. I speak as a 1901 and 500/600 away fans member.

So , with a £1000 license does the club advise you what the new monthly direct debit charge is after 5 years for the following 5 years ? e.g. if it is £99 p.m. and shoots up to £140 p.m. you can sell on the license to another punter ?

I'm sure thats how it would work. Like season tickets now, there would be notice of any impending increase, which in turn would give you time to look at the options.
