It is people speeding on the motorway that causes those unexplained tailbacks. They speed up behind a car, have to apply the brakes as does everybody else behind the speeder and so on, combine this with fast, random lane changes and we all slam the brakes on causing jams. So the speed kings not only risk lives but slow themselves and everybody up too.

Actually Nipple you are sort of right there. But if you speed up enough that you need to brake then you sped up too much and are not driving to the road conditions.

Any child of mine at 3 years old would be holding hands near a road so not even hypothetical.

I wouldn't have a residential road with parking at 40MPH limit anyway 30 max possibly even 20MPH

I normally like your posts Stew but I can guarantee you are not as good a driver as you think you are. No one is. secondly it is a rather idiotic approach to driving. I know a few speeders and motorbike riders who all thought they could handle things. Two are dead and the other is known by his chums as "Wheelie John".

Yes, but all speeders will eventually run into someone that doesn't move out of their way and this is the result. Poirot's brother told me that on Police camera action so I believe him.

If you are going to criticise at least try to be constructive.

Here's some constructive advice, hand your license in to your nearest Police station and stop driving, for the sake of the rest of us if not youself.

Er why? Have you seen me driving?

Frankly, I would hazard a guess that I have been driving far longer than you have. I have never had a conviction or an accident. Does that make me a good driver ? No it proves that I am adequet and probably quite lucky in that respect. You on the other hand are convinced that you're a very good driver, funny how few (mainly with a lot more experience) would agree.

What you don't seem to grasp is that speed limits are there for a reason, not just to slow up your 'busy and important' life.

most drivers break the speed limit on motorways, you only have to be doing 70 and see how many cars overtake you, but why is it neccessary for some on here to be so f***ing proud of what they do..."I drive at 100mph...have you seen me drive?....oooh the the camera's gonna get me cause i'm too stupid to see it"...FFS

.

Until you have been in a car with me i suggest you reserve judgement!!!

OK so what gives you the right to break the law just because you believe you are a better driver ?
I know, why don't we all just pick and choose the laws we want to obey. What do you think of cyclists who jump red lights ? Or any one who jumps red lights, after all if there's no one coming you may as well.
Your attitude is arrogant to say the least and deadly at worst. Idiot.

If people don't want to get done for speeding, don't exceed the speed limit !

It's quite simple, although I appreciate there a lot of bloody selfish idiots on our roads who don't give a f*** about anyone else once the turn their ignition key.

All part of our "I wanna do anything I want and bollox to everyone else" society.

The purpose of speed cameras should be to stop speeding but they do not, if you see drivers most of them speed between any two sets of cameras then brake when they reach the next one. In fact I think speed cameras themselves are dangerous because some drivers brake violently when they reach them when they see them very late in front of other drivers.

Cars these days built to go faster and faster sometimes you don't even know you are going over the speed limit.
If you drive in a zone with multiple cameras you are regularly looking at your speedo and not the road, how can this be safe?

Do you drive? do you not find this, there is a speed camera at the top of the hill going down into Tunbridge Wells, you have to brake to go below 30 miles an hour, if your freewheel (or heaven forbid touch the accelerator) it is virtually impossible to get below the speed limit! You are not concentrating on driving you are concentrating on trying to get your speedo down!

There are speed cameras along the A2 (about 10 or so in a 5 mile stretch!) going into and out of London, some are hidden, behind trees, behind signs etc. The road signs that show you are in a 50 zone is miniscule (one small circle sign every 2/3 miles), the road is a dual carriage way sometime a 3 lane road, it would look to be a 70 unless you knew the road itself and travelled on it regularly. These are just a cash cow, I have travelled on this road for years and it is not a notorious accident spot, I have seen no more nor less accidents on this road than anywhere else.

If reducing speeding was the aim rather than generating cash, then to slow down traffic the answer is sleeping policemen in the road.

I agree completely, having driven this road often too, and have found that although the 50 speed limit is exceeded a lot, it is not normally in excess, and wouldn't be so bad to increase it to a 60 at least.

I went to the Swindon away game last year, and got confused at the "Magic Roundabout".....was too busy looking at the sign that was situated right above the traffic lights at the pedestrian crossing, was doing 10 miles and hour and got a fine for going through a red light at the pedestrian crossing, as i was too busy looking at the sign.

Does that make me a bad driver? As i don't think so.

It's just a form of income for the relevant authorities, same as traffic wardens where parking meters are concerned!

For me the government and police have taken the piss with speed cameras for too long now, so any initiative or technological development will be judged sinister until proven innocent.

Speed limits are set with bad weather in mind. Part of the reason the motorway limit is 70 and dual carriageway is 60 is because to drive any faster in torrential rain is obviously potentially dangerous.

Driving 74 mph in broad daylight on a Sunday lunchtime on a near-deserted dual carriageway is obviously not dangerous yet I still got a ticket and 3 points on my licence.

I don't have a problem with sensible fines but I do HAVE a problem with fines where there obviously is no danger.

Interesting thing about Speed Cameras is that most decent SatNavs let you download (for a fee) a warning signal for them. However, they are known as 'Safety Cameras', now I wonder why that is.

The answer to that question is yes. Either that or you need glasses.

My mum's fella got clocked by a mobile camera on the Shoreham bypass the other Sunday lunchtime on a motorbike, with her on the back, doing 140 miles an hour, that was weeks ago, still nothing has come through so seems to have got away with it!

I also know of someone that went throught the Dartford crossing southbound, with no money to pay the toll, they were stoned and had been smoking cannabis in the car, and had been drinking, only has a provisional licence for the car they were driving, with no one else in the car, and doubtedly bonified insurance, and got away with it.

How is that so!!!

Should we maybe make this a poll? :lolol:

Whoever this really is, it's GENIUS. :clap2:

Children at 5 and 6 are most at risk of fatalities.

A child stands twice as much chance of dying if hit at 40 MPH than 30 mph
