Can someone please explain what happened a bit more clearly, I don't see what the problem is.

If your problem is merely that some people ran dow the aisle when we scored a goal - well that happens all the time and I'd have to question why they were allowed to be walking around unsupervised. Yesterday was always going to be a bit lively, if your kids were in danger or scared then it's YOUR fualt for not looking after them properly

The problem was that the aisles were virtually full from top to bottom because some people were at their allocated seats, some were at the first available empty seat-the rest of us couldn't get anywhere else and stood in the aisles.

There was always going to be a massive surge when we scored. People near the front with kids or small people should have gone somewhere safer (in the rows where the seats would stop any surges affecting them) because the stewards didn't do anything other than direct people to the general area where they might see the game.

I was in the same place as the original poster - on the east side of the south stand, in the 'upper' section about 3 rows from the front of it and I was standing right on the edge of the aisle. The entire steps area in this area had people standing from the front to about 7/8 rows back. It was obvious that most of them were pretty pissed, and swearing with every other word that came out of their mouths. I don't know why the stewards didn't do more to get them in their seats as it was pretty distracting, as they kept falling into me.

Fair enough that they go a bit crazy when we scored, but outside of those times, they were doing my head in. It also meant that everyone on the very eastern side of the stand was forced to stand up to see past them. With the kids, even standing up meant they couldn't see much.

parental responsibility, sit in the family stand..dont complain when adults celebrate at an adult activity

Its parental responsibility that they are standing at the front so A) they can actually see and B) should be as far away from the drunk twats who are 'legally' adults and haven't got the brains they were born with.

At the bigger games in and around London you do seem to get guys of a certain age (mid thirties to early fifties) who arrive late at the ground from the pub the worse for wear and have little or no self control.

If they can't handle their drink they should cut it out a bit.

All these threads about fights, abuse, kids not being looked out for etc just indicates one thing to me,the majority of The Stewards for all their posturing and defence of their position are a bunch of ineffectual cretins who haven't got the stones to confront trouble or even look after kids.

Certainly the fracas near me went on for five minutes before the stewards appeared.

Most peopple involved in Security these days are flummoxed when confrontation occurs. They beleive becasue they have passed the piece of piss SIA licence they can handle anything but when actually faced with what they say they are trained to deal with they shit it. I helped break up a fight in town yesterday outside Primark while the two massive Primark security guards (and memebers of the public) just stood and watched as one girl was getting a kicking from other girls. If this is how security and stwerads are behaving these days it will only get worse.

I swear when we play the more popular away games the % of meatheads in the albion crowd seems to grow by about 300%, anyone else get this impression?
Ain't that the truth. You never see them at places like Walsall or Crewe, then a localish game comes along and its mong central. Makes you wonder what they are like away from a football match.

So the stewards are there to babysit are they? And I thought that was the parents job...

No, they are not there to babysit, they ARE there to look after the safety of everyone at a match and if, for whatever reason the child is vulnerable they need to step in. You can argue the rights or wrongs of that after the kid is safe. And I was referring more to the argy bargy and scallywag behaviour that the stewards were too soft to step into. If someone called my gran a c*nt and I wasn't there I would hope that the security, who by the way have a legal duty of care, would step in and ensure her safety. Not piffle around getting a sweat on 'cos someone stood up at the back while people are getting punched and spat at elsewhere.

Probably cos they realise its not worth getting battered for the amount they are paid.

well, they need to take some action, it is what they are paid for whatever the amount. even if that action is to call the police if they are too busy peeing their panties to do anything about it themselves. The fact is if you cannot even confront trouble you are in the wrong job. Full stop.

Exactly they should escalate it to the Senior Stewards who then make the decision of whether they can control it or get the OB involved. Some people need to earn an extra £20 every other week during the football season to pay bills etc but basically are not up to getting various misdemeanours sorted out.

Disagree. I have a 13 month old lad who has his brighton kit loud and proud but i wouldnt dream of taking him into a sold out away end, cos i would like to think that is resposible parenting. Very soon he will be ready to sit in the family stand, a safe place, to cheer on the Albion

:wrong: 13 months old!? You have no idea at all have you?

As an aside, I was positioned in the front row of the rear section and had a view of the burger bar outside of the stand. I did find it odd there were quite a few supporters standing out there continually boozing instead of watching the game.

i had my 7 year old grandaughter with me , she enjoyed herself, ok she got a bit bored at certain times ,but for the majority of the game was standing on her seat so she could see, just like i used to stand on a box in the east stand at the goldstone, when we scored she was in my arms being bounced up and down along with me when there was a
bit of a scuffle next to us with a twat of an old boy and the stewards she just put her arm around me for a bit of security, said why was that man being naughty and why could'nt he just sit in his seat, she forgot about it all by the time we left. and she asked when are we going next, i think she is hooked, but listening to some on here i should be reported for ill treatment to a child , this is the next generation of albion fans so let them come to games home and away.:albion1:

I still think it sad that grown men find it perfectly OK to rush down steps and knock into children who were in their seats.
Maybe the children should not be at "big" away match and these London matches do seem to attract a fair few idiots but they could see there were children in the front before they charged down.
It's going to take a long time for me to forget the look of horror on a little boy's face.
That is not what supporting the Albion is all about.
