I did laugh when I heard a Weymouth butcher interviewed on radio 5 this morning. He'd been forced to remove a sign depicting the olympic rings made out of sausages.

He then replaced it with sausage squares instead but was threatened with legal action by Locog so had to remove that as well.

Taken from their official site.........

Funding for the Organising Committee comes mainly from the private sector. A total of £2 billion will be raised from sources including sponsorship, broadcasting rights and selling merchandise.

The*London 2012 brand needs to be closely protected to ensure that these funds can be raised. Particular attention will be given to any unlicensed sausages displayed as the Olympic rings.

This is brilliant isn't it, the taxpayers have forked out over 9 billion quid to put on the games, but if anyone tries cash-in on their investment by using the words 'Olympic' 'Gold, silver, bronze' etc to boost their businesses at a time of national celebration, they get threatened with legal action by the ungrateful sinister money-machine that is Locog. Sorry, rant off thread!

What a load of utter bollocks this thread is.

The entire media have basically been sucking Coe's c**k for seven years and serving up the Locog press handouts on a plate. It's well over time some of them remembered what their job is, ie not be a lapdog but to dig, expose fiascos and hold people to account.

Shame we had to wait until two weeks before.

Olympics (but the not the weather) will be great.

There will always be miserable Brits who despise sports other than football, or just sport altogether, or just that we shouldn't hold any event because it would have built x hospitals or given our overworked teachers a 1% rise.

I for one am glad we won the Olympics over Chirac & France. The organisation of the event has been immense, and the major risk of facilities not being ready like Athens etc, was destroyed by a well run massive project in East London.

This thread reminds me somewhat of all the negativity surrounding both The New Wembley stadium and the Millennium Dome both prior to opening and shortly afterwards. Both have since gone on to become very successful venues and I suspect that come the end of the Olympics, barring some awful disaster, they will have been a great success and all the pre event doom-mongering will be forgotten about.

This thread highlights why I never read the paper or watch the news.

In fact I get all my news from NSC.

Not sure that's the best plan.

Very funny thread tho. Good idea.

I agree totally. I'm not negative about the Olympics at all - I've got a ticket for the athletics in the stadium and I'm dead excited about it.

However, Locog, G45 etc have had seven years to prepare for this - of course they should be held to account when things go wrong. Perhaps the OP would prefer it if everyone smiled and pretended everything in the garden is rosy, even when there are some major cock ups (eg the security fiasco) going on already.

Exactly. I'm going as well with the family and am very excited about it, and drove 50 miles to take the kids to the torch relay yesterday in a cold and rainy Worthing.

But in purely news terms its been a diet of managed 'Olympics rah rah rah' rather than getting tucked in to some proper stories. Until a fortnight ago.

Don't you think the media is going well over the top in searcvh of some sensational bad "news"? So far, the only so-called fiasco that has happened is G4S completely screwing up the recruitment and training of security guards. They signed a contract and they made guarantees so I don't think you can blame LOCOG or the government for that one, no matter how much Ed Balls' poisonous missus might try to do so.

Welcome to the Olympic Games - the worlds biggest amateur sporting event. God help you if you stop us making money or try and make money out of it yourself though !!!!

If you were a terrorist you'd be pissing yourself laughing at the massive overkill and expense the UK has wasted on the Games security, why bother trying anything where all the 'security!!!!' is around, just wait until it's over or even during it, wheel a suitcase full of explosives/park a car outside any airport check in area, major railway station or somewhere like Oxford Circus, any city centre.
