Shut the banks early as I went to Nat West in Haywards Heath and they were shut with a notice that it was due to the bad weather it closed at 2pm why? Was it snowing inside the bank and stopped the computers working? I can never understand how people or businesses can use the weather as an excuse to close early.

I was up the town earlier. It was remarkably busy even though a few of the shops were closed.

Perhaps staff would prefer to get home safely. I expect not all the staff live in Haywards Heath?

Codger, duffer - these are words one gets to use all too rarely these days. Thanks.

I'm not impressed at how my place of work has magically emptied as well. I don't get it, at what point do you decide that you can just LEAVE work because it's snowing outside? I really am missing something here, you can't just go home, surely?! If you live further afield, then you can make an argument for it but reasons like, "if I don't leave now, it'll take me hours to get home" and "but I have to walk and I don't want to walk it in the dark" are not valid at all in my opinion. Maybe I'm totally wrong on this, and I really don't mind if I am, but I really don't understand it.

I think it borders on taking advantage of the company you're working for, and whilst I'm not suggesting everyone in employment should be greatful they are... there should be a little bit more gratitude! I wouldn't dream of even ASKING to go home because it's snowing, I feel priviledged to be in my current employment, all things considered.

Is it not that the bank provide a service when their customers require it anymore. What I wanted to do couldn't be done via a cash machine.

No wonder the economy is as bad as it is at the moment. If it's down to staff not trying hard enough to get in because of the snow, they should be first out of the door when there's cutbacks.

Perhaps they have staff who live far enough away that they weren't able to get in and so meet their necessary staff provision?

The bank have a duty of care towards their staff to ensure they are safe. If that means they have to shut early and send staff home before the weather becomes worse then so be it. God forbid one of the bank staff get stranded while walking home as public transport had stopped running and they ended up in hospital or worse. So you've been inconvenienced for the day, its hardly a big deal is it.

Surely if a business advertises that they are open until 5.00pm they should be open until 5.00pm irrespective of outside influences like weather.

So if there was a massive flood for example you would still expect it open to the times advertised ?

If three was a FIRE you would still expect it to open to the times advertised ?

Christ on a bike.......well was on one before he fell off after skidding on ice.
