The point with the Ricky Gervais Show is similar to that of Vic Reeves Big Night Out, in that the star of the show isn't actually the person in the title...

It doesn't matter what you think of Gervais (And personally I think The Office was great, Extras was ok and his stand up passable) - the star of his show is Karl Pilkington who is hilarious.

The only thing that ruins the show, is Gervais laughing loudly all the bloody time - i don't want to hear your inane laugh, i want to hear Pilkington!

Oh, and it doesnt work on TV either - stick to the podcast!

No one seems to have noticed that the MAIN reason for The Ricky Gervais Show being produced was to introduce Karl Pilkington to America. It was made first and foremost for HBO. It was not made for English audiences, but I guess someone was always going to pick it up.

I'm the biggest Gervais fan and I can accept why people would get a bit annoyed with him turning up everywhere, and a lot of his comedy can be self referential in jokes but I have a lot of time for him because in my eyes he is from a working class background, and has worked hard to get where he is and has genuine talent, so he deserves a bit of boastfulness- unlike most of the overprivileged twats you see on 90% of telly.

I'd agree with that. I think that Bo Selecta bloke is APPALLING...

C4 had a "Top 50 catchphrases" a couple of nights ago. How that cretin got anywhere on it defeats me.

I have a new respect for Gervais. Not as a great comedian - he isn't - but since he came out as a born again atheist. Good on yer Ricky.

Saw him at Wembley Arena last night. He is simply a ver observant, intelligent and funny bloke. Look out for his skit on the book of Noah....

Highly unlikely that a show like that was produced with just the domestic market in mind, particular from America.

I didn't say "just" the domestic market. But the RG show was definitely produced MOSTLY for the US market, and no doubt it'll be licensed to other parts of the world that also wouldn't have heard the podcasts.

The RG show is currently on HBO on Friday nights. As HBO is a premium subscription cable channel their potential audience is much smaller than any of the 4 main US networks so they would definitely be looking to sell on to other countries like they do with their other programming. But, more importantly, when are HBO going to commission another series of “Curb Your Enthusiasm”

I didn't realise HBO was a paid for channel.

It must really piss the yanks off that we get all the best stuff from HBO for free:

Curb Your Enthusiasm
The Sopranos
The Wire
Extras
etc.

In fact wasn't Band of Brothers originally on BBC?
