I have never "got " Gervais in any of his films or other formats. It seems to be the Emporer's New Clothes, everyone says how wonderful and nice he is and how everyone loves him whatever he does despite him doing very little that is actually funny ?

Could I suggest that Gervais is really Chance Gardener of Being There given life ?

I thought The Office was overrated, liked Extras (only for the guests) but his films have been flops and yes, you're right about The Emperors New Clothes.

Fair enough, it is just three men talking bollocks in a room- the podcasts do have a huge fan base though, constantly top of the audiobook charts, but maybe you need the context of their old XFM shows.

Its a strange one, the podcasts are brilliant but don't think the animation worked. Just put it on and went did others things while listening

Never have liked him much, thought the Office was ok and the first series of Extras was fun but apart from that I find the stuff he does average.

Bit high and mighty suggesting it's the emperor's new clothes, ie my sense of humour is superior to yours etc. It's about what makes you laugh and what doesn't. He uses humour to tackle prejudices etc. Either you like it or you don't.

And perhaps you could give us an example of what you think is better.

Fact is he is on a run of popularity at the moment and he can milk that. Extras would never have been commission if the Office hadn't existed.

And if he is the emperor in new clothes, what the f*** does that make McIntyre then!

Anyone who does not rate The Office is clearly an idiot.

The Ricky Gervais Show was better as a straight podcast - incidentally the most successful podcast in history so clearly doing something right.

I think though that the podcast was aimed at the more hardcore following who loved it. Not sure it has the appeal for mainstream television.

Unlike Michael Twatintyre Gervais is a comedy legend. Haven't seen the show in question but believe it to be in cartoon format, which does sound a bit suspect. The original 'Ricky Gervais Show' that is shown on Dave, or one of the other Freeview channels and was made before The Office and before he was significantly famous has got some absolute comedy gold on it.

I agree about McIntye completely, I just don't get what's so funny about Gervais now. To me he's overexposed and the well is running dry.

Personally I am utterly bemused by people who don't rate The Office, I mean even Extras, while it doesn't have it's foot on the accelerator all the way through each episode like The Office did, is again absolute comedy gold in so many places.

I'm the biggest Gervais fan and I can accept why people would get a bit annoyed with him turning up everywhere, and a lot of his comedy can be self referential in jokes but I have a lot of time for him because in my eyes he is from a working class background, and has worked hard to get where he is and has genuine talent, so he deserves a bit of boastfulness- unlike most of the overprivileged twats you see on 90% of telly.

Calm down Dear !

I think you should read up on The Emporer's New Clothes before you spit your dummy. Briefly, its an anology that suggests that if everyone says or does something then it must be right and no one can take a contrary opinion. Sometimes you have to be brave and take that contrary view which seems to have happened quite a lot down this thread today.

I'm not being high and mighty,or superior, I just don't find him funny, simples
