The return of the Virgo

Welcome to the Mark McGhee school of management! He's a defender, not a striker. Why don't we target a proper striker rather than a makeshift one. We got Forster for £75k FFS.

I really can't be arsed talking to thick people like you

Virgo would be a great signing. Sentiment shouldn't come into it, he'd boost the squad and can do a job in several positions.

Just seems a little far'fetched that Celtic would be willing to part with him for as little as 100k after paying £1.5m only 3 years earlier.

thinking about it , i'd love virgo back but as we are likely to be a bit skint this summer , i think 100k should go on the midfield

If it's true about Virgo then maybe Micky Adams wants him as first choice right back ahead of Whing? For all Whing's good points his distribution and overlapping play are'nt allways great and his disciplinary record can be a bit of a liability at times.

Yeah, okay, fair enough. Playing for us before is not enough reason not to sign him but I certainly don't KNOW that he is good enough. In fact, I seriously doubt he is good enough - he's hardly set the world alight since he left has he? Where would you play him and ahead of whom? I never saw enough of him in one position to be confident that he can make it his own. I would imagine that he would like to play (in order of preference):

1). At centre half
2). Right back
3). Up front

We don't lack strength in any of these areas. Cover perhaps, but with a fully fit squad I cannot see him starting. There are other positions that need far more attention. Should we not be spending £100k on a left back or central midfielder ahead of yet another centre half?

At present, I'd stick him in ahead of Lynch. And competition for places is crucial. And not that I'd put Lynch at left-back.

As for setting the world alight - he was hardly ever going to cut it at Celtic, we all knew that. That transfer had little to do with football and far more to do with helping your old mucka out.

If you're talking about putting the boot on the other foot, no fans of other clubs couls ever say he really set the world alight while at Brighton, but we knew he could do a job. So the comparison falls away there.

Just because he went for £1.5m does not mean that he was, say, five times better than Murray, or 20 times better than Forster. He is a fella who can - to use the irritating cliché - do a job.

Well that's a f***ing relief. Shall I go quietly or would you prefer me to bowdown to your self appointed greatness?

Be careful as a 'recruitment expert' you should exercise tact, like your fellow 'professionals'.

Well, we'll have to agree to differ there. I'd put him third or fourth in line for a centre half berth.

I think that Virgo would come back down here like a shot providing the cash wasn't too crap...It's also worth considering :

1. Virgo is BHA through & through. He never wanted to leave but any club in our position would be stupid to turn down a bid for £1.5million

2. He's probably made his £££ with Celtic.

3. If we're serious about going up and STAYING up we have to have a good sized squad of players capable of coming in and doing a job.

4. As others have said he's a great utility player...full back, sweeper, centre back, midfield and striker...There's not many players around at this level who can play and play well in all of these positions.

5. Had he have not played for us before those against him coming back would have been creaming themselves that a player from Celtic could be coming to Brighton...so where's the consistency?
