The return of the Virgo

Resigning Virgo would be a major boost for both the club and Micky A as it shows that a decent player wants to come back. I hope we do sign him because although we have plenty of centre halves we all know just how versatile Virgo is.

god i hope he signs for someone else soon this is getting boring now. Why are we always looking to go back, he has moved on we have quality centre halves and he wouldn't get a place up front so exactly where would he fit

just out of interest , how many goals would he get up front in league 1, bearing in mind he got 9(?) in a struggling team at a higher level. Hyperthetical but I'd predict 11

Hard working, versatile, played at the level above where we are now for two seasons and will add some muscle to the side. He can also be thrown forward if needs be.

No brainer if he wants to sign and we can afford him.

The bloke has been playing at a higher level since he left here and you don't rate him ? As for looking back would you say that if we bid for BZ? Just because he's been here before does not make him a lesser player.

If true he must be taking quite a wage drop. Can't see how we can get anywhere near the sort of wages he would have been on at Celtic. Great move by the club if it happens. A VERY useful utility player to bolster our squad.

I have no problem with us signing Adam Virgo (he's a very good player), and the fact he's been here before isn't an issue as he's only 25 and his prime is yet to come. What baffles me is where he's going to play, as the two positions you could describe him as 'natural' in are right-back and centre-half, which are possibly the only two positions on the pitch we currently have enough cover for. I think he'd be a good signing, but in reality an unnecessary one. Butters has gone, but he's been replaced by Hawkins, so where is Virgo meant to fit into things? We may well be selling Elphick/Lynch, but I just hope Micky hasn't decided making Lynch the permanent left-back (and not signing a new one) is the answer.

Why do people keep banging on about selling Lynch or Elphick? They will be with us at the start of the season and possibly longer.

Hmmmm, I wouldn't bank on that. If Virgo does sign we'll effectively have 5 centre-backs. If big money comes in then I think either Lynch or Elphick will be on their way.

More than happy to have Virgs back, though, in actual fact, I reckon he could do a job up front in this league.

Nothing like contradicting yourself, aye?

I'm not saying we're going to sell them. I said it would be a possible explanation for signing Virgo. Presuming there are no departures, I just can't see where Virgo's going to get games.

Virgo is on of those utility players that Adams is after. We have our main strikers but after that the rest is shit. Not sure about Gargan as he is a rookie.Virgo would be my third striker.Having a strong subs bench is the key to success. We haven't had that luxury for ages.

My sentiments exactly. I'm a fan of Virgo, which Albion fan isn't ? But do we really need him? In the centre back position we have options: Elphick, Lynch, El Abd and now Hawkins. If this is money which could be spent on other areas I will worry but if we can still sign ( and spend some cash) a decent left back, a creative or hardman in the middle (preferably both) and another quality striker, I'll have no complaints. We'll see.

Strongly disgree, irrespective of whether the story is true or not.

Just because he has played for us before should NEVER be a reason to preclude us from signing him. It's whether he's any good that's the issue. And we all know he is.

Yeah, okay, fair enough. Playing for us before is not enough reason not to sign him but I certainly don't KNOW that he is good enough. In fact, I seriously doubt he is good enough - he's hardly set the world alight since he left has he? Where would you play him and ahead of whom? I never saw enough of him in one position to be confident that he can make it his own. I would imagine that he would like to play (in order of preference):

1). At centre half
2). Right back
3). Up front

We don't lack strength in any of these areas. Cover perhaps, but with a fully fit squad I cannot see him starting. There are other positions that need far more attention. Should we not be spending £100k on a left back or central midfielder ahead of yet another centre half?

Welcome to the Mark McGhee school of management! He's a defender, not a striker. Why don't we target a proper striker rather than a makeshift one. We got Forster for £75k FFS.
