There is a spoons opening up near where I live. That means all the degenerates, cheapskates, students and alkies will migrate here leaving the decent pubs closing down because the old farts - sorry, discerning, sophisticated drinkers - won't buy enough to keep them viable

It's win win innit.

@PILTDOWN MAN as someone in the beer industry, will you please, please shut HT down on his "Wetherspoons sell out-of-date beer" fantasy.

They can be criticised over so many things, but surely that is not one.
Yes, I'm no longer in the industry (took a cheeky retirement plan) but can 100% confirm this to utter bollocks.

Their buying power allows them to buy cheap beer. When on the dray their beer is off loaded exactly the same as any. This means if the dray has 20 Fosters kegs on board they come off the dray in no particular order (closest first to the side). This means all pubs on the route get exactly the same batch.

Anyone who attempts to state anything else as fact is making it up.
