ones real and one is a computer aided design!! surely you can tell the difference and unless you are attempting to fly onto the pitch like kevin keegan i dont think you will see either view!! only the one from your seat. just enjoy the new ground for what it is and not expect any unique experience!!

I do hear what you are saying, however there is no LAW that says if you live somewhere you are OBLIGED to be a fan of that local team.

before coming to Brighton I lived in Melksham in Wiltshire and the local team was supposedly Swindon. To be honest, at the school I went to, the main team people supported was Leeds as they were the sucessful team at that time and there were also a few Liverpool fans..no-one supported Swindon.

I just fail to see why people get upset about people living in Brighton and not supporting them....what the hell does it matter?

It doesn't upset me, it just ANNOYS me. I can't help it.
Its the one-upmanship, the false superiority complex and inflated sense of importance they adopt because they supposedly "support" a massive team, a famous team, a successful team, while I just support "shitty little Brighton" that nobodies heard of any nobody gives a toss about.

Put it this way, if you were stuck in a train carriage for hours on a long journey somewhere, who would you rather be stuck with - a Man U "fan" who hasn't missed a match (on Sky Sports) for ten years ? Or a Rochdale season ticket holder ? I can guarantee you'll have far more entertaining football banter with one of them.

Clearly it depends. If the former was a Hollyoaks actress, and the Rochdale STH was a deranged inbred mutant, you'd have a decision to make.

maybe they just aren't as into football as you are!! i wouldn't get annoyed just laugh at how pathetic and ignorant they are in the same way as i will when i go and watch the Olympics in 2012 and im surrounded by people who know nothing about any of the sports but have bandwagoned their way into tickets because the company they work for supplied the toilet rolls or something as pathetic!!

This is true.
It' would ultimately boil down to whether you wanted a chat, or to smash their back doors in I suppose.

I do think it's an interesting debate. The bottom line is I don't really give a toss which team someone supports; even the 'you should follow your local side' maxim doesn't always apply - should people from Lewes only support Lewes?

However the thing that really REALLY pisses me off is people who are Sussex born and bred but have chosen to support another team - usually just because they're big and win things. Fair enough, it's obviously a substitute for having a small willy, but when these people sneer at ME for supporting my local side ... well let's just say I have a sense of humour failure.

I've always though I should get my own back by pretending to support Brazil at internatiional level. I mean I've always supported them since Pele and 1970. Why on earth do you support England? They're SHIT mate, f***ing SHIT! And they always have been! Shit players and shit fans. And what have you won? One poxy World Cup in 1966 when you played all the games at home, and even then you needed a bent lino to win. Since then, well f***'s sake why do you bother? Shit players and shit managers and defeat after defeat after defeat. f*** me I couldn't watch that boring shit every week it would drive me mental, I mean fair play to you it's just that I like to see decent players playing decent football, not that f***ing third world crap you have to put up with. Brazil have got a great history and a great tradition, nearly got to see them play once ...

These people aren't 'plastics' - they're just *****

I think people need to come to terms with the fact that not all premiership fans are plastics, all of the big clubs have a massive die hard support.

I know about 5 Chelsea STHs, two that have had them for well over 10 years, and all of them are interested in the albion and football in general and would never look down their noses at us like some of you have described. A mate came and supported us yesterday who is a Utd fan, he's from sussex but is a regular at OT.

The people that you are describing are just the types that don't really like football that much, but want to say that they support a team, you usually come accross them at work or in the pub and they are best ignored, or put in their place with a simple "look mate, I actually go to watch my team play"

I actually kind of see what I think you're trying to say.

Basically ALL new football grounds aren't as good and atmospheric as old ones. But what I think people are saying to you, is that at least we are TRYING to do something different and not follow the norm quite as much.

and that point i do agree with but we are going from hating snobbery to turning our noses up at other grounds such as st marys and Shrewsbury!! this year i would take either ground!!
I have bored too many for too long and will let it rest!!

Watchin the boats go by
i fail to see the differences!! its a rounded stadium brand new and fresh with no bad views and brand new ,clean facilities!!

I guess you're the type of person who doesn't reallty see the difference between a Kia and a Bentley aren't you. Fair enough, if you have standards that low enjoy it but most of us are quite proud Falmer will be that bit different

maybe they just aren't as into football as you are!! i wouldn't get annoyed just laugh at how pathetic and ignorant they are in the same way as i will when i go and watch the Olympics in 2012 and im surrounded by people who know nothing about any of the sports but have bandwagoned their way into tickets because the company they work for supplied the toilet rolls or something as pathetic!!

How much money do you reckon Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal make out of fans who never come to a game? Don't you reckon it would be much better (and probably stop those 4 monopolising the league) if everyone supported their local club and invested their money in tickets and merchandise for that club? Idealistic I know and it'll never happen but plastics are the reason Sky are so successfull and the reason the 'big clubs' in this country live in their own little dream world!

And Brovian, i absolutely love that post, think i might have to find a way to get that on my phone for next time a plastic from Sussex who supports Manure for no reason whatsoever says 'errrr, Brighton are well shit, why do you support them?'

My girfriends brother (They are Uzbeks) so really Chelsea is the only team they think about as far as English football is concerned, was stunned by the quality of the game, when I told them this was the English 3rd division.

Weird thing here in Prague is the amount of Czechs you see wearing English football shirts, tracktops, hats etc....

Well done. I wasnt that bothered by the result before the match yesterday. Just wanted to see some guts.
Good result and guts as well. Im proud of them.

Of course not all big club's fans are plastics. Some are mental diehards - the ones that go to dead-rubber champions league games away in Ukraine. Total hats off to them.

I would disagree slightly, the ones we're talking about often are football fans, and chose their club because they played nice football or were top of the league. My uncle from Surrey is a chelsea fan for no reason whatsoever but can't help to talk about them every time I see him. My Mum, bless her, loves the arsenal even though she's from wales and has virtually never been to London. My dad, try as he might to follow the Albion, just can't get past spurs because of some players they had in the seventies. They enjoy watching 'their' team play, but there's no real passion.

I have two Man U supporting mates. Neither has seen a game live in the past eight years, but one is clearly plastic despite being whereas the other is from Stockport and knows all the reserve and youth team players inside out - he lives and breathes his team. The difference was most obvious when I defaced his Schmeichal poster years ago and he went mental whereas the plastic one pissed himself laughing:lolol:
