certain parts of you post are true, such as the overflowing with plastics part, call me a plastic if you like , i'll go to about 10 home games a season, having my kids /cant be arsed stops me going to more , but during the old 2nd division days , i'll put my hands up , i had better things to do than watch the likes of chelsea v grimsby on a cold wednesday night in january, just the same as the dyed in the wool albion who cant be arsed to go now but will be all over it when falmer opens, as for the being bigger than man city, spurs and everton? were bigger than them already, we didnt used to be but we are now, dry your eyes and deal with it princess.

I don't think that makes you a plastic, nor does watching a game in the pub make you a plastic. Surely his point was that there are often people in the pub who never gone to a Chelsea game or have any connection with Chelsea, who claim to support Chelsea. Where I used to live in Cambridge was much the same, Spurs and and Arsenal and Liverpool and United fans with no obvious connection to those clubs and who were pleased but had no obvious passion when they scored.

Very different to my experiences in Manchester with real Utd and City fans who went mental in the pubs when they scored.

I can't believe it's taken this long to make the real point.

bushy, now that we're all agreed that you're NOT the plastic type that Easy is pulling up in his original post, you can put your knickers back on and go and make us a nice cup of tea.

Nope, my definition of plastics is exactly the same as yours, i just get irritated by bitter individuals who lack the imagination and wherewithal to realise that some people actually supported chelsea before the money arrived , and all this ridiculous talk of the premiershite and lack of passion , its just childlike in its transparent jealousy, i just think its a tad rich to start spouting of about plastics watching the game in the pub when you were doing the exact same thing yourself.

It is starting to annoy me now....this is the third time in as many weeks that I agree with you! Why people get so bitter about people watching Chelsea/Man U etc in pubs is beyond me, some are plastic fans, but many are not. I thoroughly enjoyed watching yesterday game in a pub in London. It didn't feel wrong and I was just as excited as I would have been going to the game. Should I not be able to do that ?

Of course it is great to be in Brighton, watching Brighton, amongst Brighton fans, but I have no problem with people enjoying games when we are not on TV.

The Problem with Plastics...

It's watching someone who went to YOUR school in SUSSEX lord it over you because his adopted team Manchester United/Liverpool win every week and your team "lowly" Brighton are in League One.

That's the issue. They get to feel smug and superior to me simply because they CHOSE a team by looking at the top of the league table a few years ago.

On the flip side - their team can win the Champions League 100 times but it will NEVER feel as good I did at the end of the Stockport game last season. They'll never ever know how that feels.

I am not really sure I understand this "plastic" fan stuff that some people like to sling about. there is a miriad of reasons why people support sides and may never actually go to a game. Am I a "plastic" Huddersfield Town fan, when I am a STH at Brighton and have supported them for 35 years, because I don't get to see Town much due to distance etc?

I guy I worked with is a Gooner, he has been since he was 5 and he is now in his 60's....he may have seen them "live" about 10 times in his life....does that make him a plastic?

I personally think there is some sort of inverse snobbery with not going to watch the team you support....at the end of the day, who really gives a monkeys about how many games someone has been to watch...it really doesn't matter.

You are NOT a plastic Huddersfield fan because they have been SHITHOUSE as long as you can remember, and you're from Yorksher.

Your colleague. On balance I'd say he remains nothing but a complete and utter plastic. Sure, he's got longevity on his side, but attending less than ten times in 5 decades is NOT proper support. He is a plastic, end of.

how does the experience differ inside???its exactly the same.as someone who has been to over 65 grounds including new ones all over Europe i can guarantee you when you sit in your seat it will feel exactly the same as pride park, the Reebok etc. the only difference will be a swirly roof from the outside!! you will be very disappointed if you are expecting a unique experience.

More often than not, the snobbery (inverse or otherwise) actually comes from the bloke who has latched on to a big club for no other reason than them being a big club, whilst sneering at the likes of the Albion. I once had the "pleasure" of being in the company of a full-on plastic in a pub in Brighton a few years back, when a Liverpool game was on. He took exception to a remark I made when a Liverpool player dived. The conversation went something like:

"Suppose you're a MANC then"
"Nope"
"Who do you support then ?"
"Brighton"
"Who ?"
"Brighton"
"WHO ?"

And no, he wasn't hard of hearing. Just insufferably stupid.

I honestly dont care about plastic fans, they brag about how much they win etc but I im 90% certain the joy i felt when Spurs won the shittest cup we could win and got to the final last year will be twice the joy plastics will feel, when there boys win something 350 miles away in Manchester.

I would literally cry with Joy if Spurs got into the champions league or won the FA cup.

Im sure its the same with most Brighton fans with the Back to back titles.

I do hear what you are saying, however there is no LAW that says if you live somewhere you are OBLIGED to be a fan of that local team.

before coming to Brighton I lived in Melksham in Wiltshire and the local team was supposedly Swindon. To be honest, at the school I went to, the main team people supported was Leeds as they were the sucessful team at that time and there were also a few Liverpool fans..no-one supported Swindon.

I just fail to see why people get upset about people living in Brighton and not supporting them....what the hell does it matter?

Surely you can tell the difference between an aesthetically pleasing stadium thats easy on the eye, and a functional bog-standard design thats copied up and down the country. What looks better. This:

Not even a question really, is it.
