Those that have played football will know Barnes had 3 options here and had to make a split second decision:

1) Stay still and take the hit from the sliding tackle that is clearly clumsy and OTT - it will hurt and risk injury but the other guy has more chance of beind shown red.

2) Leap as high as you can in the air - you won't get hurt but the tackle won't look as bad and the fella has more chance of staying on the pitch.

3) Half jump in the air to avoid the force of the tackle but leave your foot in / make sure you land on him as he's sliding under you. This can still make the initial tackle look bad and also give the bastard a nice stud on his ribs. However you do risk punishment yourself sometimes.

Barnes took option 3 so I can see both sides of the red / no red argument. What everyone agrees with is that their guy should've seen red, no question. More so than Barnes IMO.

barnes deserved to go from what i have seen, but so should the Burnley chap for his reaction, to the letter of the law, it was 2 reds.

changing the subject, being in the NS, i didnt really see the Noone penalty shout, anyone see it, was it a foul / pen or a dive?

Not a dive but a soft shout. Having said that i've seen them given and given the decisions yesterday that went against us it was a stone wall IMO hahaha.

I suggest you watch the replay either on Player or via the BBC IPlayer from the Football League Show. If Barnes hadn't jumped he would have been joining Dicker with a plaster cast on his leg. The commentator on the FL show expressed real surprise that it was Barnes that was sent off.

This with bells and knobs on. Watch the BBC footage. Then vote 'no'.

Correct decision for me. Although Burnley player should have gone for his reaction, as should their player who elbowed Vincelot before Vincelot punched him. Should have been 4 reds not 2.

The burnley player also went in with both feet

It was a definite foul' a tackle from behind,if it was not a penalty then Noone should've been booked for diving, which neither decision was given...real bad refereeing.

Two footed challenge by McCann - red card.
Over the top of the ball stamp by Barnes - red card.
Throttling of Barnes by McCann - red card.

This, this and this.
Although I'm not convinced that Barnes meant to land/stamp on him.

Barnes wasn't getting out of the way of anything. He stamped.

Call that a stamp? Pah! Did he even touch him with that foot? McCann created the situation by diving in two footed for a 50/50 himself. All Barnes did in my opinion is try to keep out of the way. Rubbish decision.

Having just watched it a few times, Barnes thought about it then jumped out the way, landing on the burnley player who jump in two footed and should have been sent off, simple as that.

Highlights on Seagulls Player now. Doesn't show Vincelot incident. Live commentator said "that's a tough looking challenge from Barnes". Noone 'penalty' looked a dive. CMS shot straight at defender at the death is a real howler.

And the footage I have seen the commentator says it was a tough challenge from Ashley. My view is that it was a studs up lunge from Barnes and he deserved to go.

This picture looks quite bad, but then it looks like he is kicking the ref, or falling over backwards over the defender
