If I was Heckert I'd take Wright or possibly Hill at #22 then best available RT in the second round. OR, J. Martin (RT) at #22 and maybe Randle at #37. Either way it has to be WR and RT with #22 and #37. Give Colt a year with some protection and a decent WR and see how he does. Its the only fair way to judge him IMHO. If he fails next year then do whatever it takes to get a QB next year.

You all set to take Barron?

What I don't like about Hill for the Browns is that he looks like an all out speed guy who just goes deep. Yes, that stretches the field, but I'm not sure that is the best weapon for McCoy. A rout runner like Wright will get open far more often, he'll have a go-to guy in him, whereas Hill will not be that man.

I did think they would be going QB in 2nd Rd, but as the weeks have gone by, I think they'll give McCoy one season with weapons. So, second round, yeah it could be an OL guy like Zeitler or Silatolu.

Cowboys, yeah, Barron does look like he'd be a great pick for us, but if he's gone I want either a CB (Kirkpatrick or Gilmore) as Carr is a great addition, and an upgrade on Newman, but Mike Jenkins blew hot and cold last year, and 3 CBs would give us some great rotation, and competition, which Jenkins needs.

Ooohhh, Jags trading up ahead of the Rams, presumably to steal Blackmon from under their noses.

Wow, we're in for Claiborne. WOW. Surely that's what the trade is about.

Last blue chip player in the draft, great trade!

We've basically looked at our roster and our games over the last couple of years and decided "with a secondary we'd have been challenging" so we've spent the off season going and getting one. Delighted with that, a pick beyond what I'd hoped for.

Blimey, Barron has gone at 7, we weren't getting close at 14 then.

It's fallen nicely for the Jets here ... the choice of Coples or Ingram, blimey, that's worked out well. Ingram I reckon.

With Wright gone to the Titans, I wonder if the Browns will go Hill. I hope they don't. Hightower would be a good pick for them now, as he's great value at 22. I think the Pats have traded up for Chandler Jones.

... I'm talking to myself now aren't I?!

No way!

Don't get me wrong, I like him, and thought he could well be the target to come in for McCoy, but blimey, he would still have been available the next time the Browns were on the clock, Shirley.

I'm still here, head in hands though. Passed up Reiff and Hill for a guy who'll probably be 30 before he's ready to start.

Dreadful pick.

He'll be starting next season, possibly week 1. At 28, they won't be bringing him along slowly, to start in a year or two, he'll be starting soon as. Surprised though, as there were some very good piayers available, and I just couldn't see who they thought would have been taking him before the Browns were next on the clock.

He will start, they are looking to trade McCoy, doesn't mean he's ready to though. As you say, I can't see anyone else who would have taken him before we pick again.

I've made my peace with it now, having been pretty disappointed last night. You watching tonight?

I watched all of day 1, but with the Cowboys trading away their 2nd round pick to move up for Claiborne, I didn't sit up beyond the first few picks of day 2. Day 3 was quite interesting though and at a decent tiome, so I had the laptop on following that one pretty closely.

What's your overall view of the Browns draft then?

Very pleased with Richardson. I know it was a high pick for a RB and we probably fell for a bluff in terms of trading up but he has the potential to make a real difference to the offence from day 1.

After that, I just felt like someone had left the page headed "Must get a Wide Receiver" on the photocopier and only found it on Saturday morning. Weeden would probably have been there at #37 and Schwartz or another comparable OT at the top of the third. Depth at DT was needed, but not in the third round when we had greater needs elsewhere and I just felt like we reached for a lot of them and should have got far better value.

What did you make of the Cowboys efforts?

Happy to finally have what could be a franchise corner again to shore up the secondary, with D Ware in the trenches with the sacks we create our defence should be much higher up the charts this year

The more I read about the Joe Paterno / Jerry Sandusky / Penn State story the more sickened I am.

Amazing to think that sometimes "fans" will try to excuse, ignore and defend anything, if it's a hero of their team or club.

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/story/19571028/were-sorry-thats-all-we-want-to-hear-from-the-penn-state-apologists

There are just so many bits of this story that just leave me shaking my head in disbelief, but not least of them is that the initial cover-up came after McQueary walked in on Sandusky abusing a 10 year old boy in the showers, and after he reported it to Joe Paterno the next day, it was basically covered up. THE. NEXT. DAY. ? That isn't seeing someone putting the contents of the stationery cupboard in their bag and going home, this was the rape of a 10 year old boy. How do you report it THE NEXT DAY, as opposed to punching the fella squarely in the face, and sitting on him until the police arrive?

The whole story is just unbelievable, and gets worse and worse with every detail I read.

I can't remember the details, but I was listening to Tony Kornheiser's radio show, a period of time after the story broke.
There was plenty of facts but it was still in the 'shocking' stage.

Everything that was said was paedophile 1 0 1, the grooming, respected person, clever, manipulative. etc etc.

Anyway the whole studio outlined a paedophile and were all genuinely shocked that's the modus operandi.
The naivety was scarier than the story.

I agree with you – it is completely sickening. This has blown up into a massive media event out here after the report was published yesterday. The report pulled no punches and really ripped into the Penn State administration. It basically said that Penn State was a huge money making operation that spectacularly failed to look after the students who had been abused. It accused them of being enablers to Jerry Sandusky by allowing him to stay in post and continue abusing the students.

I think Paterno got off incredibly lightly by dying before this report was published and not having to face the music. Incredibly there are still supporters who think he was this great coach who did no wrong.

There are now rightly calls to tear down his statue at Penn State and there are also people saying Penn State should cancel its football program for at least a year.

Absolutely. I keep reading that "Joe hasn't had a chance to defend himself." FFS, sod defending himself, he hasn't REALLY suffered in all this, compared to those kids, and he had 14 years to defend THEM, and he failed, time and time and time again. They are the once he should have been defending, and he quite clearly didn't. Instead he DID defend himself, well, his position and his beloved football programme. He defended THAT at the expense of those poor innocent children.

They should pull down his statue, and cancel the programme. If they don't do it "officially" it will happen by force.

Who by? The NCAA? This is a criminal case and doesn't fall under their jurisdiction, they take care of enforcing their rules/bylaws and the operation of athletics.

They could try and give Penn State the Death Penalty but would probably get sued.

People power. I think there is a lot of emotion going on here, and I could see the statue and the programme being the target of protests, over and over again, until the sheer volume of the outcry against everything connected to Penn State and Coach Joe, leads to it coming down, and the programme being closed down. Maybe even just as a "rebranding" exercise, but one way or another, I expect this to all result in the staue no longer being there in 12 months time. If that doesn't quell the reactions against the college, then I think they will close their programme.

Whether that happens or not, who knows, but that's what I was getting at with the last bit. I think the public outcry towards Penn State will be enormous, and is not going to be helped by "supporters" continue to try and defend and excuse those who were clearly culpable. That will only draw more anger towards the programme.
