The north. It's a shithole

The irony of this thread is that the south-east is the dullest and soulless part of the UK - I'm sure that if it wasn't for London and work associated with being near London, a lot of people would choose to live where there's beautiful countryside etc....

Sorry...Milton Keynes vs The South Downs?!

In fairness, the Dorset, Devon, Cornwall stack up pretty well - Northumberland is great isn't it? Quieter than some of the others....

That's the point I think, the places oop North that are nice, are generally those areas where very few Northerners live.... I rest my case m'lud.

I'm in the North East too. Absolutely hated it when I first moved up here. Couldn't understand a single word people said. After 6 years of living here now I've settled in nicely. Northumberland is fantastic. Just sodding miles from Sussex.

Whenever I head back to the South East now it seems to be full of cockneys. I'm sure people didn't speak like that when I left in 2002.

If I'm honest other than the hours it takes me to get to the footie the only thing I miss about the South East are my family, friends and the weather.

I am half an our from Snowdonia can get to Yorkshire Dales, Lake District, Peak District, Pennines, in under two hours. From Sussex I would still be stuck on M25 in that time.

I live in the midlands. If I could get a job paying similar in Sussex, I'd be back like a shot!

DONCASTER
Most of Yorkshire is lovely but then there are places like Rotherham and Doncaster.
Well as I have lived in Doncaster for the past three years I will come to its defence. I was up this way in the seventies for four years and it was a grim time. Modern Doncaster has been transformed. Best market in the country (you will not have seen the like in Sussex) and those lucky enough to travel up last year for the Donny match will have noticed the Stadium next to the lake and plush offices /housing. I live a few yards from the one time home of Douglas Bader and all the houses around here are made from the beautiful local stone. As for the people, they are generally great. They were even polite enough not to take the piss out of us when watching the Swindon debacle at the local pub.

Jealous. At some point I know we'll give up trying to earn the max and move somewhere about a million times more laid back.....

Living in the Yorkshire Dales,in the 3 peaks area of the region, why would I want to return to Sussex other than being able to watch the seagulls on a more regular basis.
I cannot think of any so I'll lend my support at the away games in this region (Burnley kicks it off in 2 weeks) and enjoy the peace and serenity of this beautiful area.

Was pleasantly surprised by the parts of Doncaster around the Keepmoat, they have clearly tried to regenerate the area to a good standard. Neat stadium too. Won't mind going back there sometime but not in Lge 1.!
