I think the death penalty is wrong whatever the crime. The state should not lower itself to the level of the lowest in our society. We as a whole should be better than that, however emotive the crime. The punishment should be life in prison with parole dependent on the circumstances of the crime. I personally wouldnt want to live in a society that had the death penalty as law.

Because prison is such a punishment these days...

This old chestnut, if we accept undeniable guilt, would you then support it, probably not, so what is the point of this comment.

Why not offer a greater insight to your reluctance to put down vermin like these predatory paedophiles.

The courts and police have proved many times they make mistakes, some people have been killed by the state in the past only to be found totally innocent? Are you happy the police and courts get everything 100% right all the time? If they can't get it right every single time you can't consider using the death penalty.
I am not defending anybody who commits any crime.

Because nobody every gets wrongly convicted in this country...............

Of course they do

Do you honestly think this lad has not ID'd the right people.

What were them blokes doing walking him to Debenhams then, just before 2 'different' men that looked the same raped him eh??

Come on, I know there is stitch ups, f*** ups, and all that in our system.

I say it again, convicted, kick the stool.

Pork pie land.
And you're advocating a worse crime ? Give me a break. Take away all their rights and iliberty by all means, but if you took their life you're worse than them, they didn't kill any one.

You bleeding hearts make me sick. In my opinion, raping a young boy is far worse than murder, and deserves the maximum retribution, not life at the taxpayers' expense in some luxurious high-security jail. How would you feel if it was your young son? These people are the lowest of the low.

I am assuming the poor victim has ID'd them from pictures, also CCTV of them walking him.

If there convicted I would happily kick the stool, no question.

You'd have kicked the stool on Derek Bentley then? or Timothy Evans?

So you are sure mistakes do happen in the system but would still kill people convicted by this system.

Killing people is wrong. Punish these horrific criminals severely. Lock them up where they cannot harm anyone else. But state sanctioned killing debases and brutalises us as a society and as human beings.

Timothy Evans was supposed to have murdered his wife and daughter, all the evidence presented pointed with certainty he had done it. The jury took just 40mins to convict him and he was sentenced for execution.

Only he was completely and utterly innocent, his wife and daughter murdered by serial killer and neighbour John Christie.

How many innocent people is it worth?

So why blurt out your angst of getting the wrong man, when in actual fact you have a deeper belief that is more palatable.

Personally kill the bastards, do you honestly believe they just had a bad day and thought a random rape on a child was a spur of the moment event, can you even start to imagine the catalogue of the most brutal crimes against children they have inflicted against women and children, jeeeez save the mercy, please.

He.

It apears you have killed a man who did not rape the poor boy but 'only' assisted.

Thats ok then he ONLY assisted, im guessing he held him down or what ever? he will be out in 3 months once hes be rehabilitated by the system... what a joke.

I really dont think you can personalise these crimes (i know this is a terrible crime) - the law of the land doesnt do this. It has to be examined with a dispassionate view.

You make it sound like opponents of the death penalty are some how showing compassion or empathy with those committing crime. From my point of view not having the death penalty is nothing to do with showing mercy, and everything to do with accepting that the justice system is not perfect, and the risk of taking one innocent life through a wrongful conviction is one too many - and there have been many!

I didnt blurt out my angst of getting the wrong man - you have accused my of a crime i didnt commit - that was another poster - but thanks for demonstrating my point as to why we shouldnt have the death penalty.

Not me it doesn't, I find it reassuring that these men that sexually brutalised an innocent child should die for their actions, I would comfortably feel intact as a human being too.

Think a better example of not having the death penalty is needed quite frankly ;-)
