The more I think about it , the more unlikely I think a 3pm kick off on 6th August is

I would have thought it would have a reasonable chance of getting picked if we're in the Championship as there would be some general interest from other fans in it and also the first game at a higher level, Poyet bla bla. Lots for them to talk about.

A change of kick off time wouldn't bother me either to be honest. It's going to be an amazing day whatever day and time it is.

How many first games at new stadiums have been on tv? I can't think of many.

Maybe not, but you see a lot of teams opening fixture, after winning promotion as CHAMPIONS the previous season.

I think THAT will decide whether our opening home game is shown live or not.

For those of us who may not be able to make the game I sincerely hope the game is on TV. Also Bloom and co will have no say over it, if TV decide they want to show the game we will have to move it.

I have started previous threads on this one. I have kept free the Friday eve through to the Monday eve just in case. I

t is correct, not many 1st games at new stadium's have been televised, however, not as many teams as us have been through the same adversity, closure of ground, two further grounds before spanking circa £100m stadium being opened so it has a story, which I can see interest in. Throw in promotion its another added factor. Who knows what the fixture list will throw up? Noone knows (whether they like to think so or not) if the club will request a certain fixture (ie Donny) or if they do, whether the fl would grant it.

So in short, until the fixtures are out and the tv companies have had their grubby hands over them, we just wont know but I do think there is a strong possibility we wont be playing at 3pm Sat 6th even though this is when we should.

Only an evening game on the Monday would be a negative for me. 12:15 or 5pm on the sat or sun would be fine. In fact a 5pm on a saturday could be even better as many will be even more beers down

I am sure the club will want a 3pm ko for logistical reasons. And if necessary Hebbard will ensure the police take the same view, which overrides the "we have no say on TV matches" point.

I'd be willing to bet HB&B a pint of Harveys that this is the case (unless he tells me it won't go with the prawns, or he might spill it down his smart polo shirt..)

This might be the biggest single event to hit Sussex since The Krankies 81' tour debuted at the Brighton Centre (supported by Bob Carolgees and 'Stewpot' from Crackerjack), but in terms of televised new-season soccerball, it ain't that big a deal to anyone else.

The only way I can see our opening game being bumped for TV is if we go up, and get a relegated team from the Prem.

I think you are right PG, 3:00pm would be best for logistical reasons. 12.15 would mean people start heading towards the ground with in a shorter time period, 5.15 would allow people another two hours drinking and 7.45 would mean the match end in the dark.

a 12.15 kick off could mean come the end of the game we would be top of the Championship if we win or draw as the only game played so far :) (Of course should we lose then we would be bottom :( )

But we will be top anyway.

league table is done purely alphbetically bfore the season starts.

And do the league still not recognise the League table as being valid until about 5 games in?

Just because it's probably our biggest ever game, it doesn't mean it's football's biggest.
The only way we would be on TV, for this one, is dependant on who we play.
The 3 relegated premiership teams fixtures will get looked at before ours, we will be on a par with play-off loser.

(All this if we go up, as champions)

err, don't wish to put a downer on things, but I think you'll find that THE CUP FINAL was without doubt, our BIGGEST ever game

I would imagine it will 100% certain to be Saturday 3-00
They will need to check, transport and parking issues, entry and exit issues, catering and drink issues, stewarding:wanker: and the park and ride facilities and car park issues.
The only way to test this correctly would be a Saturday, which is when 95% of the matches will occur.

What are the odds eh, you go years without hearing the name Bob Carolgees, and then he crops up twice in twelve hours.

They will indeed need to test it out on a Saturday, but the first game of the season is not the time to do it. The previous Saturday, i expect, will be the official opening of the stadium and will be against a very high calibre of opposition and probably cheap to get in to ensure we have a proper dress rehearsal in front of a packed crowd, with park and rides, policing, catering etc all tested to the max.

So again kick off for the first game next season will depend on the tv stations, Hebbard will not have a say in it, the police would be unlikely to object and as for someone saying it cant be a late kick off because it will be dark when the game finishes

I did actually think about this a lot (well more than most other posts) and decided that, that was a 'one off' massive highlight in the clubs history.
Where as Falmer is the culmination of 20 odd years of fookin hard graft that had the great and the good not worked tirelessly for, we could so easily not have a club to hang the moniker of 'Cup finalist' to.

No it wasn't.
You with me, Easy?

You with me, Easy?

I am if you are referring to a match that took place in a small town just outside of Wales.
We will NEVER have a bigger game than that.
