Think they're just trying to understand your definition of socialist and work out why they can't have nice things/have to give away all their money? From reading this thread their definition and yours seem completely at odds and that is where the "tension" is coming from.

No tension at all from me. I just don't pretend to be something I'm not. I'm honest enough to admit that I'm just out for myself and beyond family and friends I couldn't care less about others. Most of us are exactly the same as me but many stick an X in the box for labour at election time and feel very proud to be a socialist and then return to their comfortable middle class life with a 1901 membership.

But you haven't explained why a Labour voter can't enjoy 1901 membership.

They can enjoy it although I think it's hypocritical to be a labour voter and have 1901 membership. Most labour voters go on about 'elitism' and wanting a 'fairer society' etc so having 1901 membership goes against those principles. Why not sit in standard (padded) seats and donate the difference in cost between that and the 1901 to charity?

NSC may not be as you perceive it, you can’t go simply by the same few names always piling-in who are pro Corbyn and Remain. There’s a wide array of views, loads of Tory voters who just get on with life and don’t post on politics, and you can’t pigeon-hole people. I’ve sometimes voted Tory, but I detest Trump for many reasons.
