Most of them have no experience of juggling billions of pounds. Instead of behaving like the business community who are continually forced into saving money, they know they have the power of direct and indirect taxation to raise revenue.
If you trust any politicians you will end up disappointed. They can never deliver what they promise and their hands are tied by controlling interest. It always ends in disappointment, scandal and human failing.

I think it is preferable to have a government that on the face if it wants to serve, rather than one that wants simply to enrich itself and it's chums. After that, it's down to events as you rightly recognize.

ID cards are either totally ineffective, a reproduction of something almost everybody basically already has (i.e. a means to demonstrate your identity), or they're a tax on going outside. In all likelihood they're a combination of all three. In any case, I'm glad they've been ruled out.

It's the sort of thing governments become more keen on the longer they're in power as they run out of they're own ideas and competent ministers, and start getting captured by the organisations they're supposed to have oversight of.

Not easy at all. Their demands cannot be afforded nor can the precedent be set, whilst Starmer also needs to demonstrate that he is strong enough to stand up to the unions. However, the doctors will be expecting to get close to the deal they want now the tories have been routed.

If, but equally importantly how, Starmer resolves this dispute could define the next 5 years for, from his perspective, better or for worse.
