Seems to me there's selective focus also. Seems to be currently on family entertainers and politicos, rather than pop groups/rock bands of the time and their underage groupies. For instance, I'm currently reading 'Hammer Of The Gods - Unauthorised Biography of Led Zeppelin' which comes right out and names names and ages. Are the bands of the time going to all be prosecuted also? Or does it make it alright because the victims were throwing themselves at the bands?

The focus needs to be on the passing around of young children by people in power.

Not saying that you are wrong about groupies and rock bands, but this is quite different.

Slippery answer, yes or no is how she needs to answer

slippery, but its a factual answer too: she expects them to be available, but ultimately cannot make them available. its down to special branch and there may be a overriding reason for them being available.

i can see those that want are already finding problems with this inquiry. unless theres a public execution of all those they *think* are involved, based on some unverifiable source, they'll cry about it being a whitewash and a coverup.

I get sick of Muppet faced people coming on the TV saying we gathered evidence it was given to people higher up the chain and then it disappeared

maybe a few questions as to where it went might have stirred things up a bit
everybody frightened of their own shadow, frightened they might lose that vital promotion
who the hell can you TRUST now
oh dear there is that bloody word again
lost evidence
is that not why the first ****** case fell by the wayside, the police/or someone else lost the vital forensic evidence

Sorry to lower the tone of the discussion, but did I really hear David Cameron say he was planning to "get to the bottom of" these allegations? Not a great choice of words ...

People will be allowed to lie about child abuse, with impunity.

And once they have, we will all be expected to accept the matter as closed.

That is sinister to me.

Frankly, if people are willing to cover up child abuse, I dont imagine they'd be too worried about lying under oath ...

Worst of the worst in my view are the NHS staff who gave Savile the keys to the kiddies ward and the mortuary despite knowing damn well why he wanted the keys. Inexcusable.

anyone who "turned a blind eye" in those circumstances should hang their heads in shame

I can't help feeling it's not co-incidental that the enquiry into the press, and the prosecution of Murdoch's chief staff has now drawn to its inevitable conclusion.

Sensitive information can be used in a variety of ways to compromise security, and ultimately gain financial advantage.

Jimmy Saville's actions and behaviour, like many others were horrific, but to carry out these list of crimes undetected in supposedly safe national institutions like the bbc, care homes, schools, hospitals and prisons defy belief.

Rumours did exist, but for him and countless others to remain undetected until now is very suspicious. Yes the internet is a powerful tool to communicate, and digital information is harder to lock down. But many of these reports and suggestions were created long before computers became wide spread.

Someone has sat on documents, or videos, or photographs for a very long time. Possibly using the threat to maximise influence in all kinds of places. For whatever reason, this has now escalated and is now in the public domain, causing widespread discomfort to many senior public figures.

The stakes have been raised over the past couple of years, and as things appear to spiral out of control, interesting times lie ahead. With luck people will be held accountable for their actions, whether they committed or covered up these sickening crimes.

Death doesn't necessarily mean escaping justice, Saville's toxic reputation ably demonstrates that!

Really don't see why they shouldnt be prosecuted if evidence can be provided. Aiding child sex offenders should be a crime if it isnt one already.

"...pointed to a 1985 BBC documentary in which a former government whip between 1970 and 1973 said that the Tory whips' office, when faced by an MP involved in "a scandal with small boys", would get him out of trouble, partly so the MP then felt obliged in the future to carry out the bidding of the whips."

Does anyone know what happened to our very own Justin Fashanu and Steve Milligan. Didn't they commit suicide? Wasn't there allegation of sexual involvement with high society royal connections?

I am guessing that "the establishment" was run by a group of people who had too much on too many people. It wasn't in anyone's interest to "fess" up. The guilty couldn't, the "blackmailers" couldn't as they had all the powerful guilty people doing what they needed doing and the remainder (a small bunch of innocents and victims) were too scared. Now is not the time to stop with a few high profile cases, now is the time to rip this whole thing wide open. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND THEY'RE COMING FOR YOU .........
