Great news for Scotland, but a little confused as surely the first minister was very vocal in saying Boris was wrong and it was far to early to consider easing restrictions, yet barely a week later, and BEFORE any data to see the effect of lifting restrictions in England on R has been.Being so sure that the English had got it wrong, it would have made sense to wait to see what happened in England before lifting restrictions in Scotland. The cynic in me says that her hatred of anything the Westminster Parliament does resulted in delaying any lifting of restrictions just so it could be her, rather than Boris that did it! Regardless of motivation, great that restrictions are slowly being eased across the UK

Only 451 new cases in Italy and under 100 deaths. Lowest new cases since March 3rd and lowest deaths since March 8th. :clap2: So happy to see these really hard hit countries coming back.

The low number of positive cases is good news indeed. Despite increased testing, and the easing up (official or otherwise) of lockdown measures, the positive case numbers have been staying steady or dropping slightly.

I've been watching the 'predicted' numbers and spread of symptomatic cases on the Covid-19 symptom tracker app and while it has not dropped for a while (actually rose very slightly over last few days) this sems to be mainly down to a few clusters (still low, but slightly above national average) of cases in the midlands and northern cities rather than any widespread re-emergence. The south and London especially have stayed consistently low on predicted cases for over a week now.

R values:
Scotland - 1.0
NI - 1.0
Wales - 0.8
England - 0.4 London to 0.8 in some northern towns.

It seems right that different nations with different R values should ease lockdown at different times. That exactly how Spain, France and Italy have done it .... regions are coming out of lockdown on different dates, some being made to endure lockdown far longer.

How do you get to that data in the app out of interest? I can see where you self report, however I couldn’t see anything by way of actual data.

Meanwhile in Spain...

The number of daily deaths due to coronavirus in Spain fell to 59 on Sunday, the lowest daily figure since March 16, according to data reported by the Spanish Health Ministry on Monday.

The total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Spain stands at 27,709.

Of the total cases, the number of health workers infected is 51,090, representing 22% of all Covid-19 infections in the country, according to the Health Ministry.

The mortality rate is significantly declining, from 11% at the height of the epidemic at the end of March, to 2% at the beginning of May, Dr. Fernando Simón, the country’s Director of the Center for Health Emergencies, said at a briefing Monday.

Simón said the government has instituted a new system for reporting Covid-19 cases, allowing for detection and treatment much more quickly.

This has cut the time between a person showing symptoms to being diagnosed with the virus down to 4 days, from between 7 to 17 days previously.

...and Italy...

A total of 99 people died in Italy due to coronavirus in the past day – the lowest daily increase recorded since the beginning of the nationwide lockdown on March 9, the national Civil Protection Agency said Monday.

But wow, that is an astonishing figure. I wonder how many Spanish health workers were infected but had no symptoms and therefore gave them no indication they should self isolate, but sadly infected other health worker colleagues or people and patients they came into contact with.

Frightening.

Government to begin publishing recovery data.

UK doing this could also bring Closed Cases very close to overtaking Active Cases globally on Worldometers.

About time on that. Will be good to see the number of recovered cases

The figures will be important, but unless they have a good deal of break-down, I’m not sure what they’ll tell us.

Does ‘recovered’ mean ‘Didn’t die’, or does it mean ‘back to full health’?

I think we can assume didn't die

As always it'll mean whatever puts the Government in the best possible light.

I doubt they are keeping track of everyone who has tested positive, especially those with mild symptoms, so I suspect it will be very crude calculation.

Number tested positive - ( those in hospital with covid + in care homes with covid + number of fatalities) = recovered. (Assuming they have a figure for positive in care home)

Pretty much every other country does it based on exiting hospital/negative test following earlier positive test, I believe.
