Yeah, Wilsons up there. No argument.
Considering the level they played at for most of their Albion careers, its laughable that Minton and Hammond are even being mentioned.

Codner for me, lazy i know, but he did always strike me as a player you always thought would score....i was only in my teens in the mid eighties though so perhaps i was misguided....

Jimmy Case was not an attacking midfielder IMHO - not really holding either - just a midfielder. Grealish was definately holding midfielder. Danny Wilson was more of an attacking midfielder. I would say best attacking midfielder in last 30 years was Steve Penney.

Penney was terrific, but was too injury-prone to ever establish himself as being considered one of the best in the last 30 years, imo.

Sidwell of recent times, I am surprised no one has mentioned Clive Walker, I know he never one any tackles defensively, but he always provided a threat going forward and he could deliver a ball better than Carole

Agree - Penney suffered a lot of injuries. Not sure of his goals and games records but when he was playing he could certainly go past people. Case played 160 games and scored 10 (in two spells).

Penney was also a WINGER, and whilst that obviously is TECHNICALLY an attacking midfield position, I don't think he really qualifies within the context of this thread...

You're not allowed to mention wingers.
Hans said so.

I think the point might be that a winger would be expected to be an attacking player anyway. Steve Penney was a winger and a great player, but I would not have considered him an attacking midfielder.

I started the thread with the sort of player in mind who sits in the middle but who also drives on into attack, not rally a winger. Quintessential example by way of example would be Bryan Robson.

Oh well, thats it then, I'm sulking and off to start my own thread on greatest albion wingers, no sodding central midfielders permitted :annoyed:

I am not the arbitor of such things, just pointing out the context of this thread as I understood it, following on as it did from the threads bemoaning Albion's lack of such a player right now.

And as TRHK has now established...
