Snow forecasts ? Snow ARMAGEDDON, more like

They are famous for it. And like the progressive weather forecast it changes throughout the article.

Pending doom to start with, dire weather to follow, a little weather issue as we approach the final paragraph, and once the met office are quoted it becomes a passing snow shower. Notably, the weather station quoted is always one of their advertisers...

Weather forecasts and conditions are increasingly being sensationalised and exaggerated.

Moderately heavy rain is now deemed 'torrential'.
Normal cold weather is now said to be 'sub-zero' or a 'Big Freeze'.
Any thunderstorm is now described as 'violent'.
Any spell of snow is portrayed as a 'blizzard'.
Any warm weather is said to be a 'heatwave'.
A moderate breeze becomes a 'severe gale'.

GFS 18z deepens the cold & likely prolongs the longevity.

Notice the incoming Atlantic lows are elongated & essentially “sliding” around the blocking boundary. These are the widespread snow makers*

*assuming they come to fruition.

According to Met4Cast off of that twitter X thingy.

About 50 cm of fresh snow at village level in the Tirol yesterday and overnight. More forecast for the next week with cold temperatures and most resorts pumping our artifical snow.

10 pistes in Kitzbuhel and a handful in Leogang (in the Saalbach area) open this weekend with most resorts planning to open around 8th December.

The view below is from St Johann in Tirol this morning. Looking good for the start of the season!
